Looking for information on frame rail weld nuts. Any one know what size bolts go into the holes along the top of the frame rails? Where can I purchase pre drilled and taped frame nuts? Also what is the best way to box the frame? flush or inset? I know there is an article (there are plenty) on the HAMB that had these specs for the nuts and a scource but can't find it. Can you help! We are getting the frame gig together (since it is alittle warmer) and can't wait to start this frame project. Any advice would be appreciated.
Most builders use common hardware store bolts. If you insert your boxing plates you will need to weld standoffs inside the frame rails. These hold the plates a uniform depth. 3/8" bar stock is easy to work with. At body bolt locations use 3/8" x 1" bar stock. Drill and tap body bolt holes as necessary.
one shop I worked at would use standard nuts. they drilled out the top of the frame, just large enough that you could hammer the nut into the hole. thread a long bolt into the nut, and tap it into the hole, then use the bolt to keep it straight. When it was flush with the top of the frame we would tig weld it up.
Take a look at these, down the page. Bib Overalls' idea works well too. http://www.mcmaster.com/#weld-nuts/=bbh5ea

Any one know what size bolts go into the holes? What 32 Ford specs on the bolts? Fire wall holes? Body bolts? Thanks for the info so far.
"3/8 co****" is what Gary from Blackboard Hotrods text to me. If you have questions, Gary is a great guy & has built over 600 ch***is using ASC rails. here's his info- www.blackboardhr.com Good luck.
From the front top of the rails 1&3 are 5/16ths and all the rest are 3/8 th. We use co**** threaded weld nuts which are unplated and larger than the normal nut. Fender and running board nuts are normally 5/16th. I usually leave the last frame mount hole nutless as it's easier to adjust the body with the hole open.
In our '32, we welded 2" long pieces of 3/8" thick plate under the body mount holes in the frame rails, then mounted the body, marked the holes, then drilled through the plate and threaded them. That way you know without a doubt that everything is going to line up perfectly. https://www.welderseries.com/blog/2009/06/01/body-being-bolted/ http://www.welderseries.com/32proj/pages/art3.htm < This one shows the plates welded in.
