I've been a lurker on here for a while, finally signing up. I'm just a 21 year old Mechanical Engineering student from CT.

I've got passion and respect for real cars that have heart into them, regardless of the age of the car. That's what drew me here. As an owner of a newer car, I have a hard time finding like-minded people. Many people just flock to the cars that cost a lot of money to buy/modify, and have a lot of tacked-on/bolted-on modifications. I look for passion, and true quality work, which requires actual effort, more so than just money.

My personal vehicle (daily driven) is a 2003 VW Jetta GLI. This is the 2.8l 24-valve VR6 version with a 6 speed manual. I've done extensive work to essentially every aspect of the car. As a student, I obviously can not afford to pay someone else to do the work, not that I wanted to anyway. I've learned a whole lot. The only thing that I did not do myself was the actual spraying of the new paint (due to lack of appropriate equipment, but all the bodywork up through paint prep was done by me).

A few random photos from my build thread on VWVortex.

Some may like it, some may not. Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and those differences of opinion are what result in the diversity that makes custom vehicles interesting.

I've had a few other projects, but one of the more notable ones was another VW, a 2004 .:R32, belonging to a friend of mine who is a Veteran of both the Iraq and Afghan wars. The car had a lot of potential, but was in a state of disrepair. I led a team of myself and some friends to repair/restore/modify his car during his second Tour of Duty (Afghanistan).

  3. Your ride is so off topic I don't know what to say.
Obviously you haven't paid much attention to other posts
or you would know this site is dedicated to traditional
hot rodding. You seemed to be a talented young man but stick to the VW sites. Good bye and good luck.

I've asked for no respect, nor understanding, or even discussion.

I have actually read the rules, and am aware that this is the "introductions" section. I could have just as easily said "hi I'm Matt" (as many other intro threads do) and left it there. This is not a project thread, or a tech thread...quit jumping the gun.

Again, per the rules, intro threads are required. Had I just said "hi I'm Matt," I feel as if that would be dumping a junk thread on the forum, which is counterproductive. There's a person behind every keyboard.

The forum discussion involves cars that are not like mine. But being a car forum, its far more fitting for me to introduce myself using the car I actually own, rather than falsely presenting myself, or putting up a dorky-ass photo of myself.

As I have read the rules, I know about the "shit talking" policy, so I'll leave that to others ;)

C'mon guys, can we cut the drama and welcome a new member without jumping all over them for trivial stuff? He knows it isn't a VW forum, but wanted to show in his intro post he has a passion for getting his hands dirty, which is what Hotrodding is all about.. cut him some slack

Anyways, Welcome to the site.. I'm a longtime member at the VWVortex, and I remember your post about redoing your buddies car as a surprise while he was over in Afghanistan, it was an awesome thing you did, and the kind of thing that should be welcomed on this site

  7. I'm not a moderator and don't make the rules, but I've got a pretty good idea what this site is about. I'm here to learn and talk about traditional hot rods not to view pics of rat rods, rice burners, go carts, crotch rockets, snowmobiles, jet boats and any other bullshit that's not even closely related
to what this site is about. There are lot's of sites related to
everyones passion. Post on those and leave this site for traditional hot rodding.

Exactly, you aren't a moderator, and not only do you not make the rules, but you obviously also do not comprehend them. It sounds like you never read past the first line.

Nobody asked, nor cares about your opinion regarding a vehicle posted in an introduction thread. Again, this is not part of the general discussion forum, nor a technical thread. By the rules, introduction threads are required of all new members.

It is quite obvious that you, and others, would rather I clog this section of the forum (which you claim to want to keep "traditional") with a junk thread to simply complete the requirement of posting an introduction, as a new member. You are not willing to allow those who own something different than you, or have a different background than you, to participate in the forum's actual discussions. You make assumptions based on a few photos in an intro thread. Would you do that for an unnamed person who doesn't even post any information about what they own, if they even own a car at all?

The shit talking is coming from you, not me. I'm not the one who disregards the rules here. If you want to join some kind of organization that has a purity test before anyone can even come through the door, then the internet is not the place to look.

Since I find this beyond immature, from a crowd that clams to be "traditional," I've PM'd a moderator to ask that this thread be removed, and at their discretion, to delete my account.
