A refinery explosion in Texas, gas is going up.

A couple junkyards and some individual finds being crushed up, fewer old cars in the pool.

GM can't find its ass with two hands and a map, so Pontiac or Buick is going to be gone soon and all we'll have are SUVs, trucks and FWD econoboxes.

I really need to hear something happy about our hobby... what have you got to share with me?

5 days, 3800 miles, 9 states, big snow storm, highway closure and about $800.00 worth of fuel and I have a '29 A Tudor and 59 casting flathead motor, transmission, rearend and complete hydraulic brakes for my summer project.

  5. I wish I had something but I don't....I just hope to hell that someone a lot smarter than me is working on alternative fuels for our carbureted cars....and I'm talking about FEASIBLE options.....

I was just out in the garage working on my new project....because I can.
I have a job and can still afford to buy gas...so I do.
It seems like we're still hearing of "barn finds" and "secret stashes".....so I'm optimistic.
Like Hatch said, summer's right around the corner...ah, things are looking up!

  14. Briggs, if it makes you feel any better, we heard the same things in the 80s,70s,60s etc.....................just look in some old magazines. Car makers dying, Big Brother breathing down our necks, Rodders lamenting the lack of good tin "like in the good'ol days"

I think this is a pretty amazing time. Just look at all the cool cars out there. Cool parts being made for teh aftermarket. Cool folks met via this clackety box we type on..........................we got it better in many ways than our predecessors!

  16. I retired in January on a Friday.......went back to work for the same outfit the following Monday as a part-time employee, makin wages [still] and collecting my pension every month. That's good news, eh? Is for me. Now, I got a little more $$$ to play with. Hell, I've even thought of maybe goin down and buying a brand new rubber gasket for my old green garden hose.
Guess I could splurge for a new comb too.......oh shit, I forgot! I don't have enough hair left to comb. More good news! I just saved the price of a comb! Life is grand.

  17. I'm working every day on my '26 track roadster pickup and it's getting closer to fire-up each day. I started the '40 yesterday and moved it out of the garage and back in. I'm retired and I think my wife and I have enough resources to live on for the forseeable future. We're reasonably healthy and both on low fat/low carb diets and loosing weight. I've got a '32 roadster build waiting to be started, my daily is a few months from payoff and social security starts in May. I don't like the price of gas but I can afford it.

Life is good at my ranch. I try not to focus much on the big picture things that I can't do anything about. That's not to say that I'm not concerned about some of those bigger issues but the fact is that staying focused only on those things makes for a mean outlook. Life is tough enough without that.

Hang in David, it ain't all bad!

Thanks guys, this is the kind of stuff I needed to hear. Too much pessimism lately.

  19. Want more? I just bought a 30 foot camper to live in while I build my new shop/studio! Property values are great around here, I hope to pocket 50K on the sale of my current place, that will set me up with a fraction of teh monthly debt we have now and 13 acres to live on that is almost all paid for.

They released something today saying that that idea was taken out of context and that's not the case right now.

    true or not, I dunno.

I had a little time today to get the 54 pu out of the yard (winter storage facility). Had a chance to run it around the block a couple of times in the sun shine this morning. Pulled it into the garage and pulled out the seat. Have a replacement seat almost ready to go in already. Seat mounting brackets are almost done, the replacement seat is sitting in the truck, ready for the test fit/drive, hopefully tomorrow. The "new" seat isn't as pretty as the one I took out, but it fits in the truck much better. They are calling for some decent weather for Sat, might go for the first official ride of this year. I am SO ready for spring to start.

I sence a seat going to a swap meet next week, if it don't sell at least I'll have something confortable to sit on...

  23. It got warm enough to get the '46 Ford frontend that I needed unstuck from the frozen ground...!

    The downside?
It got warm enough that the deer that's been hanging in the shed, froze cock stiff since November, is going to have to get cut up...:D

I made the last payment on my place a few weeks ago. 15 yrs of writing that check every month, over, done, finished!!
My youngest child graduates from college May 13th. All 3 will have degrees. Yipee!! Now they can support me. Yeah, right.
I got a title & plates for my roadster & got insurance on it today with a mainstream company, same full coverage as my "normal vehicles". Two major hurdles crossed, now it's legal! Now I got 6 days to get it driving so I can take it to Roundup!

and my artworks for sale/on display across the street from Jo's during round-up!
and I have a job, my kid's are healthy, I love my wife, and my dog is cool as hell!
    Happy enough for ya, boy-o?

Survived the surgery this winter and it looks like they have got my new shunt and pump dialed in. the headaches are MUCH less. The weather looks like it might take a turn for the better any month now and if the '32 will fire I'm looking forward to a summer of driving. Life just keeps rolling along and I'm fortunate to be here for the ride. I'll probably be traveling with the wife and her new "street rod" some this summer so i'm looking forward to being chaufered (catching a few Z's) instead of doing all of the driving. If life gets any better than this I don't want to know about it.

    Hmmmmm
I put the motor in the coupe and it fired right up. The end of the parts search is in sight.
Lots of BSing with Blownolds- cool considering we are at opposite ends of the country, and would not have met if it was'nt for this board.
Spring is on its way with swap meet season.

It's Friday and I have a cool list of stuff to do in the shop for the next 48 hours.
