Hey everyone. I wanted to share my build as my introduction.

I picked up this '57 F100 for $600 with your standard dose of cancer and California patina.

I bought it in late October and have put 133 hours into the frame. I'm bagging it to lay door. That's really as much as I can say without going into tremendous amounts of detail and I know no one wants to hear it so I'll cut right to the pics:

The day I trailered it home:

I stillhave some smoothing, filling and plating to do on the underside of the frame but...so far so good I think.

Next order of biz is to get the 9er stripped down and cleaned up so I can tack it up and start the 4 link etc. I also need to get the drivetrain mocked up so I can build cross-members and bracing.

Thanks guys. I've been lurking and learning here for a few months so I decided to join and share my project.

I've bagged a handful of trucks and have done my share of sheet work but this is my first full body off street/resto/rat rod build. I'm really trying to nail all the details while I have the chance. More to come soon...

Edit: Is there somewhere better to keep a running build thread going? Could a mod move this and change the ***le please?

  9. Excellent work. Great photos.
Gunna be a cool wagon alright.

Also if this thread could be moved out of the introductions forum that would be great!

That's gonna be pretty neat when it's done. I don't think you needed that much of a step up in the back but you might prove me wrong.

Ya it does look big but consider that the typical step notch is built off an already elevated frame section...that is, most factory frames have already curved up to clear the rear axle.

I built this coming off a flat section that will lay all the way. It could have been 2" smaller but I wanted to be able to clear a large wheel/tire combo and lift the front only.

It looks a bit big sitting on the dolly without wheels but next to a 28" overall tire with the motor in the rails, it looks a bit less exaggerated...I think

Well that's true. I'd like to see it mounted up on wheels. By the way what wheels and tires are you running?

There is a pic of it with the approximate tires sizes propped up next to it up near the top of the thread. I think they were in my first post.

I'm using a tire roughly the same height as stock on the 15" steelies it rolled in on. So like, 28" overall. I think 215/60 or 205/70 or something of that nature.
