Wow Bushy....... I have that clipping and was there that day........that crash to Jim Burns car was unreal........Jim Benning was suppose to drive that car that hit his during qualifying but he was late to the track and his car owner decided to qaulify it.......he was an old fellow and lost control of the car down the front straight and plowed right into the sittitng car of Jim Burns.....the whole tank blew up in a fire ball in shock to all present..........everyone escaped injury.....I actually have that crash on an old home movie coverted to video from a libary the Miley family owns (Ben Miley raced there in the claimer division) His mom captured the tail end of that crash on film I have it somewhere in my tape library.

    JOY FAIR RETIREMENT Ceremony

Bushy thanks for the links I really enjoyed that!

BTW.........Did you see the Pgh 250 in 1971??........do you remember what happened to Stan Yees car that year???

Well Joe Ruttman was running it.......and he made a pit stop in the inner circle of the quater mile/figure 8 pavement area and decided to take a short cut through the grass to try to get back out on the track before the pace car came around to avoid losing a lap........so he drove through the grassy area of the infield but unbeknowst to him was this big storm drain dip in the infield so he came flying over that and dipped down in it and when he came up the other side it launched the front end of the car up in the air like a wheelie standing drag racer...I though he destroyed the underside and shocks/suspension of the car but he kept Stan's ole junkyard dog going in race without losing a lap.........hehe

and Joy Fair..............couple quick Fair stories here of many I remember.........when Joy turned 65 yrs old in retirement age he was asked "what do you think about reaching retirement age?" and he jokingly said........"I think its great now I can stop working and race full time!"

another time I was at the McDonald's out in front of Toledo Speedway after an Iceman series race in the early 90's in which Joy wasn't racing that night because he had just sold his car and hadn't built a new one yet.....There is a big crowd of people at Micky D's getting something to eat after the race and then I notice a crowd in the dinning area gathered around this real tall guy with a Detroit Tigers baseball cap on...

.........well I nudge my friend and and say, "hey that's Joy Fair over there!"......

So we order our food and the guy at the counter asks us what is all the attention going on with that guy over there.....and noticing the baseball cap the counter guy says to us......."is that Al Kaline??" (Tiger HOF home run great)............

I pause for a minute and say....."uh ........yeah.........that's Al alright!"

So we get our food and go over to Joy and talk to him for a bit while he is signing all these autographes and tell him who the counter guy thought he was..........Joy laughs and shakes his head.................then this counter guy comes over and ask for Joy's autograph so he signs it " Best wishes - Al Kaline"...........

After the guy leaves and goes back to work at the counter, Joy looks over at us and winks while we laugh our butts off...........

BTW.....I think I have some photos of that Draime big rig hauler and will post them soon.....
