I have a freind that picked up a 32 Ford five window that was a hotrod in the 50's. It was channeled and the bottom of the doors , quaters, and cowl were cut. He is looking to add patch panels but does not know how long the door is from the belt line to the bottom of door. Can we help this guy?

I can get a rough idea from mine. My car is rough, one door was pieced, but the other has an orig bottom. I'll try to post what I measure later today if nobody has a good car with better info.

From the bottom of the belt line to the bottom of the door: front 23-1/4", back 23-11/16". Hope that helps.

Thanks Dug. Now I have a reference point to start from. Will post before and after shots during the project.

  6. Wouldnt you be better off adding the cowl and rear quater patch, then adding the section that goes under the door THEN making your door fit that?????

I measured my uncut door at 23 1/4" front, and 23 1/2" at the rear. Measured with flexible ruler bent to follow the curve of the door.

Also measured the other door that I pieced in, and was exactly the same.

I have no idea why mine is different than Dirty Dug's

I'd be leary of that. I think all cowl and quarter patches are made by the same company from what I've seen. I am not convinced that they line up at every point. My car was rough, but still had remnants of the lower beads, yet I still could not get every edge lined up, and still have that flowing single curve from firewall to rear fender.

When tacking them all on, you really need to take time to step back for a look at the lower curve, viewed from the side, as well as looking down the side of the car, from the front and the rear.

There was a 32 5w on here a few months ago at a place that does metal fab, and the lower curves were real bad IMO. The body work was not started yet, just the actual welding of subframes and patch panels. I can only guess that the fab place tweaks it all later?

I think your going to need more than patch panels.....like inner door structure etc

Your right. I have a metal shop and will fab up those items now that know how long the doors are. Yes this is a big FN project, but its a 32
