What to I do????..........please help

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by skatermann, Mar 8, 2011.

  1. Right now I have a hard choice to make. I am looking for a model A roadster, but I found an EXTREMELY nice '30 coupe, made an offer, and I'm supposed to pick it up in one day. now I am wondering, is this really what I want to spend absolutely all my money on (I'm 15), or should I wait until a roadster comes up?

Please give me your thoughts and opinions

    thanks
    Joe

Hey Bud, if you made a committment to buy from somebody I'd stick it out, sometimes a side road will get you where you never thought you wanted to go and turn out much better
.. Roadsters from what I know can be real expensive to build right, so are you also being honest with your funds.. There's tons of guys on here who will give you a much more educated and experenced advice, on the cars, so I'd listen to them..

  5. Well they used to say coupes are for chickens. So move over and give me room on the roost.

If you build the coupe right you will like it. You can always open the windows to get wind in your hair. Roadsters are not all they are cracked up to be.

If you told someone you're gonna buy it - then buy it! You're never to young (or old) to stick to your word.

Roadsters look like great fun cruising around town or the car show. Spend a couple of hours in the sun (even cruising around town) or the rain on the road and you'll think twice. Too late by then.

I used to drive a friends convertible once a month to keep it broken in while he was in the service. Could only drive it at night cause the sun would beat me down during the day, and I don't even live in a hot climate.

Buy the coupe and chop it! Now that's cool...

  10. You bought it. Drive it and enjoy it:D

    Agree with buying it.

    A) Sounds like you gave your word. You'll learn in this hobby/ lifestyle that everybody knows somebody that you'll wind up needing/ dealing with in some way. You'd hate to mess that up this early in the game!

    B) Starting at age 14, (I'm 25 now) I've owned 30-something vehicles. Lots of them were just investments. Put a little time in them until you get the oportunity to trade them for what you want. Often times in this game, stuff is worth more than money. Everybody has at least a little money, not everybody has that '30 coupe to deal. And you never know, you might wind up with a soft spot for it once you've put a little of your heart into it. I thought my 54 Chevy truck was UGLY when I got it, I wanted a Ranchero. Eleven years later, it'd take a pure act of God to seperate us!

    C) You're 15. Lord willing, you'll be driving this thing before you get out of high school. Most of the other kids won't know if it's a roadster or a coupe. They'll call it a "Model T" or a roadster, even if it aint. And at least you won't have to worry as bad about them calling a coupe a "dune buggy!"

Good Luck, and congrats on the car, whatever you may get!

i agree with everyone else, esspesialy the part were the sun beats on you. I live in san diego and have a RPU. Its my spring and fall ride. Its no fun in the summer unless its at night. Nothing like sitting in the sun in 100 degree heat.

Number one) you made an offer and it was accepted stand by it.People talk you are building you reputation and you will have it long after the car is gone. Two) All the money you have now isn't all the money you ever will have, you had zero at some point before and chances are you'll be at zero again(now or later). Three) roadsters aren't CRX's they aren't for sale in every town on every day. The people who have most of the roadsters may care where they go and a Fifteen year old with no history of building may have an uphill battle prying one loose. A young gun that has a finished coupe may be another matter. When you build the coupe you will learn plenty for your next build and if the roadster is still the dream it will be all that much better with what you have learned with the coupe. That's my $.02 worth,in any event good luck to you.

We all agree that you should pick up the coupe, but here's one suggestion everyone else is leaving out: you MIGHT be able to trade it for a roadster. All you need is to find someone who has a roadster body but really wants a coupe and you will both be happy.
(Personally I'd rather have a coupe, but if your heart burns for a roadster then keep looking)

The other thing is, unless you overpaid for it you should always be able to turn around and resell it. I bought and sold at least a dozen cars when I was in high school and I made a little bit of money on every single one except the one my Dad talked me into buying, and even on that one I only lost about $50. Go for it.

    Go for the coupe.

I know girls like roadsters, but the coupe in the long run will be better now.

I've always wanted a coupe but was given a great sedan... I'm building a sedan and saving for a coupe! You got your whole life to build a roadster! This coupe wont be your last hot rod! Its a sickness.

There are often threads on here about both people reneging on selling and/or buying something. Don't start out on the wrong foot here! If you said you would buy it, buy it.

As a roadster owner, what is said about hot days is correct. BUT, there isn't anything quite like being out in the wind in a roadster. Heat wind and rain build character. lol.

What everyone said about keeping your word rings true, if the coupe is a good buy it can be traded for a roadster down the road if you desire, but once a deal is struck you need to go through with it. Deals come and go but you only have one reputation.

I have had so many people ask me to come down on a price and then say "I'll think about it" that now I always say what figure would you be a buyer at today.

    Good luck on the build.

  21. exactly.

  22. You have to start someplace and it will never be with your dream car. You will get to that point with time and this is a great start. Thats how I got to where I'm at now by buying, improving, selling and upgrading to the next better thing. Young guys want it all right away and life doesn't grant you that. Once you have something to start with, the rest will come to you in way of trades, help and meeting good people but you have to be a member of the "club" first, otherwise you can turn out being an armchair wannabe forever as life moves very quickly.

  23. If you have given your word to buy it, stick to it. If not, wait until you find what you want or you won't have the money to spend when the car you want shows up.

There are many directions you can go with the 30 coupe. If after you have it and the roadster idea is still in your craw, you have a desirable piece to sell or trade.

  27. Like others have said, you gave your word now keep it!

One question though, how many miles have you done in a roadster? Before you make the decision as to what you WILL build be sure that you are suited to it.
I have had both roadsters and coupes, roadsters are fun but are pretty unpractical. If the car you are building is to be a daily driver, BUILD THE COUPE!! If its only going to be a week end car then the roadster is well suited.
No matter what, buy the coupe, then you have an asset that you can build, sell or trade for what you want. Once you have the coupe it's going to be an adventure and could lead you to places you would never expect!

    Doc.

Oh yeah.......Resale it?? WE speak English in the free world, its re-sell.

I want a coup and haven't found one I could afford. If you can afford it buy it ,you may never get another chance at one in your price range.

They guy you're buying it from probably made a deal with you because of your age and probably thought, "I'll give this kid a good deal because he seems nice, and it would have been nice if some old guy game me a deal when I was a kid...".

Stick to your word. Even if it turns out you don't like it, you will be able to sell it later, especially if you made a good deal-you might come out ahead.

I wanted a roadster but had to settle for something else. You can always get ANOTHER project you know...;)
