finally finished the bomber seats in MISS STICKSHIFT mounted them onto some late model seat runners that give us about 9" of travel we made the whole lot in my shop with a bead roller, a wooden buck and lots of clamps and hammers. the ege has 6mm steel rod with the edge rolled over for strength http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v124/flamedcrankster/100_3087.jpg
if you have a look at the album that that photo is stored in you will see a lot of pics or go here http://www.cruizin.com.au/newforum/thread-view.asp?threadid=2656&start=1 and read the whole story of the build. basically it is a 25 dodge bucket with everything being built by a mate of mine and myself for as cheap as possible. i wont post pics here as some people get really **** about it having an independant front end, although if you read the whole story i think you will get what we are trying to do
NICE job! Do yourself a favor and go read the whole buildup guys! Excellent workmanship and some very funny guys in that post. Damn...why is my ear so ticklish...LoL
the tracks are out of a late model car and are 30mm high. the back of the seat sits on the top of the runners and the front is lifted up 100mm so as to give support under your legs
we have nearly finished the "hallock" style windscreen. if you are interested i could try and post some pics. whole thing is made out of 5mm plate and cost $12 in steel, and about 8 hours
the frame is made from 5mm steel plate cut with a grinder to get it to the shape that we wanted then welded together to form the 'u' channel which will hold the gl***. the aluminium strip at the top is just to represent were the gl*** will finish.
this is what the whole car looks like. please excuse the independant front end but this car is being built on a real tight budget, and we have made everything ourselves, no store bought beam axle and 4 bar kits here
I like it, the body, seats and windshield show some damn good craftsmanship, do you plan on leaving the frontend exposed? Paul
yes,the frontend will be exposed and it will have to run cycle gaurds to be licensed. we are still tossing up ideas for the grill, which may go someway towards hiding the frontend. the front end was used because it was affordable. so far we havnt even spent what a dropped axle front end with 4 bar costs, and we are nearly finished. this car is a learning exercise for us and will probably be sold soon after being licensed, so as to fund the other 4-5 projects that we have floating around in our heads. ideally we would have liked an i-beam front but cost was a big issue
fc ute, That is awesome! I love to see people use what is laying around/available and engineer it into their ride. Anybody can build a car with a checkbook but it takes time, skill and desire to build one yourself. I applaude you and your mate for building this cool hotrod, and that frame for the windscreen looks great, the straight 6 looks great, those seats look great...hell, the entire car looks great. This kind of project rekindles the fire for us regular Joe's with limited budgets but unlimited imagination. Thanks BPD
Great seats ! In Dutch DAF army trucks, YA328, are pretty similar seats, and I have sold a few sets in the UK, Also if you can get a hold of them, the seats out of a 4x4 renault Goelette from 'round 1953 are the bomb (no pun intended..) But they look really gooooood ! Liked the screen as well !
thanks bpd, we are just trying to show a lot of guys over here that you dont need big bucks to build a rod. i would love a i-beam front in it but if i have to choose between, 1.not building a rod cause i cant afford the axle or 2. building a rod with ifs and driving it i know which choice i will ake
you would be surprised at how simple our seats were to ake. i have over 1000 photos of the whole build of the car and when i get some time i will do a couple of tech posts, bomber seats, windshield, battery box etc if you go here you can read an abbreviated build up http://www.cruizin.com.au/newforum/thread-view.asp?threadid=2656&start=1
Hey, Don't get too hooked up on the IFS thing, Olds were doing it way back in 34 (possibly earlier) makes it pretty trad to me Lookd like you are doing well, one day I will get motivated.....
Great to see your progress, especially the fact your willing to think out side the square and have a go. Now, the windscreen........as you would expect, I like it, but to be honest, I also believe it could loose an easy 4" off the top. The reason for this comment is because it looks to big and bulky for the body, kind of like 'fat chicks head' on a pe***e 18 girls body............... I recognise that if you did this it would effectively render the screen useless as far as being a 'wind-screen', as it would drop down to below head height. None the less, ignoring my above personal opinion, I still wish to encourage you for thinking outside the square, and making it to suit you. Hopefully between yourselves, Lowsquire and myself, we'll be able to have a dirttrack race at the 'picnic'.... Cheers, Drewfus
