I was cruising the hamb this morning , and read a thread called "VWwheelstander" , and it made me think , I bet this guy would like to see a van I know about , so , off I go with camera in hand , then I decided , why not just stop at every old car I know of between my home and where I'm going , mabye a 12 mile round trip , here's what I came up with in viewing distance of the main highway , not to include the one I know in people's yards.... The '54 is real nice , setting out front of a bank for sale , but , $15,000 seems alittle rich to me , the rest is stuff lying over the side of the road , in old lots , and the like , how about around your neck of the woods? , what can you find in a 12 mile radius of your home?
Well, Since I live in the city, they aren't out in peoples yards. But In about a 3 mile radius near my house I know of a 1940 ford, a couple chargers, about 5 68-72 dodge darts, a 67 chevelle, About 3 or 4 model A's, A model T as yard art, a 68 nova, a 65 nova SS( grandma car) and I think Hamber ForsakenFew is just up the street from me.
I thought about taking pics of stuff within a one mile radius of my home. It is amazing! Most of it H.A.M.B. friendly. Maybe one day.
I was going out to dinner last night and saw a 5 window early 50s Chevy truck sitting in a field. You can see it from the interstate now that they have cleared some trees. Not a bad looking body.
These can be seen out my front window. This is the guy who came home with the '29 sedan and got me to thinking about getting back into hotrods. I ask him if he is proud of himself, he cost me $41,000 that year! No pics but one buddy has a '46 Plymouth, another guy within walking distance has a '29 AA, another has a '34 coupe and a '47 cheby sedan that was his family car when he was a kid. For a small town with a population of only 3,500, we have about 20 hotrods in town.
Well, just up the street from me is a collection of '32 sedans, a few Cosworth engines, some vintage track roadsters, a Howell four banger, numerous Flatheads, a real nice 56-ish Ford pickup, an old Honda Trail 90, ... Thats just in my subdivision.
1954 Chevy truck, 1961 Chevy Suburban, 1954 Chris Craft "Hemi Hummer", a garage full of Tuckers and Crosleys and an Anglia, 1912? Olds powered Indy car, a primered 70 Torino, 1949 F-1, 1960 F-100, 56 BelAir, 56 150 Hardtop, 4 door ChevyII, 3 69 Nova SS's, 41 Ford 4dr, 69 C-10, a 57 Panhead... lots more! I've got alot of cool neighbors. These are all within walking distance!
Got any pictures of the "garage full of Tuckers and Crosleys"? I would be interested in seeing them. Tuckers are pretty rare and to see more than one at a time in the same place is almost a miracle. To my knowledge the most that have ever been in the same place at the same time (since they left the factory) is 12 of them at a Tucker club meeting back in the day. There are a couple of threads dedicated just to the Tuckers here on the HAMB.
How about the original owner of the "little Coffin". Larry Farber who lived about 1/2 mile from me,my closest neighbor, who just resently p***ed away was the original owner of the Stucky built Coffin. Guys still tell me stories about pushing it around Mulvane Kansas trying to get it running back in the days. Larry farmed a lot of land around here and he and his brother , rick were really into high end race cars. Those of you who were at the HAMB drags last year, saw the red 56 chevy g***er running with, "keck, henderson, farber " racing on the door, well that was brother Larry.
Last I saw, there were two and a parts car. That was years ago. He trades all kinds of stuff, but I know that he's kind of fond of the tuckers.
56 Ford 50 Chevy 40 Ford 40 something Chevy 29 Ford P-Up 28 or 9 coupe stock 32 F, Gl*** ford bunch of early stangs some muscle cars
I don't think this server could handle all the rods within even a 10 mile radius of my house. Aside form all the cars that guys have stashed away in the garage (since I live in the city) like the Hirohata Merc and at least 100 others I can think of, there are also all the shops, like Circle City Hot Rods, Dagel's, Altered Engineering, American Hot Rods, Romance in Rust, CW Moss, Reid's, Modern Performance, 401K - not to mention Street Rodder and Rod & Custom
I live in Austin, so just about every cool car you can think of..the one that keeps me up at night is the 61 Corvette under a shed with no roof and the windows rolled down...
Within 15 miles of my house (nearest neighboor is 3 miles) There is: '40 Ford Coupe '36 Ford Five window coupe '56 Chevy Pickup '37 Chevy sedan '56,'49,57,51 Chevy grain trucks
There are a ton of cars in a quarter mile radius from here, the worst one is a pretty cherry stock 32 Ford fordor that has been outside ALL WINTER! Had to tell someone...
It is the trunk section of an early '60's Buick more door ,from the rear door jambs back , I think a starfire , on its top...
OK, I'll bite. Just where are these Tuckers supposed to have been? There were only 50 ever built (plus the prototype). How many years ago was this?
Next door.... 190??? Model T speedster 1928/9 Model A rpu 1936 Ford Cabriolet 1939 Merc conv. 1940 Ford deluxe coupe 1940 Ford pick up 1941 Ford deluxe coupe 1962 Ford sunliner All, nice, restored to original. The old guy p***ed away last year, and I hardly ever see anyone over there. I mow around the buildings to (hopefully) keep the rodents away.
Jaws diid this same post a year ago or so. To the best of my knoledge, the only hamb friendly cars around here are a 46-48 merc coupe and a 46-48 merc convert. Oh and just this week I have seen a 63-64 Merc. The 46-48 merc coupe gets out a coupe time a year. tyhe convert... never seen it on the road. I will keep an eye out on the 63-64 merc and see what hapen there.
Probalby twelve or 15 years ago. I'd have been ten or twelve myself. But I remember him telling me that that car is a Tucker, and I'd probably never see one again. And there was another nearly identical one next to it. I couldn't even tell you now what it looked like. I was a kid and there was a Corvette in the other end of the shop! Sorry if I got you excited or misled you with the "garage full" comment!
