'30 Tudor dragrod....my latest build

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by kardude67, Jan 6, 2011.

  1. Hug and make up. You got talent out the ---. I joined this forum for stuff like yours. If I wanna look at "traditional" rods I'll leaf thru my old custom magazines.....again. Like I say "opinions are like ass holes, every bodys got one and most of 'em stink.

landseaandair, this is primarily a, cliche as it sounds "traditional" rod site

I assume you have not attended the H.A.M.B. Drags in Ashbury Mo. held each year in August. If you had you would see how "On Topic" this build is..........:):):)

What size tubing did you use for the main frame rails.....? wall thickness....? Looks like you laid them on there side..... it makes a good looking lower profile frame...

If you don't want to look at "traditional" rods, how'd you end up on the HAMB ?????

If this is "on topic" for the HAMB drags, maybe I'll skip them....I was hoping to see traditional cars dukeing it out, and maybe a few HAMB gas rails too....

That's some nice work, and I really like the wrecker....of course the only thing remotely traditional is the body......but the fab work looks well done....try the dogfight magazine side of the house.....

I think I'll stay right here. I have only had a couple of negative attitudes aimed at the car, but I have seen overwhelming interest in how and what I am building. I really don't care what anyone thinks about the "traditional" status of the car. I am building it from scratch with my own two hands, and, when it is done, it will only have to please one person. If this keeps you away from the HAMB drags, we will try to make good use of the additional parking space. If you do make it, come by and shake my hand and we'll go racing.

HotRod 33, I formed the rails out of 10 ga. (.134") hot rolled P&O sheet. I designed the section under the body to be shorter and wider to lower things without channeling. Those sections of frame also have an additional gusset strip welded vertically down the center. It makes a triple walled channel the full length of that section. They are 3" x 6" channels. The front frame channels are 2 1/2" by 6" at the cowl, and they taper to 2 1/2" x 4" at the front spring perch. I had seen a few build using quarter elliptical
springs mounted on the side of the rails, but I wanted a cleaner and simpler look. Is a suicide front end considered traditional?

I really don't care if you stay, I was only trying to point you to a more appropriate forum.....as for not caring about the "traditional status" of your car, well, that's why the majority of us are here, and that's what the forum is about...traditional hotrods and customs....make good use of the parking space.

Since you asked....no, that one is not very traditional, especially sitting a ratrod appropriate distance in front of the grill shell / radiator....and you did ask...

I don't have a problem with the car, it's just a non-traditional car on a traditional forum.....I may as well have a thread about my dunebuggy here.... that's it, I don't hate it, I don't hate you, I just pointed out a more appropriate forum, maybe lots of you guys should go check it out.....as you just seem to want to get into a fight about what should be here and what should not.....

I have been over at dogfightmag before and it is a great site. I could knock on probably half of the cars here on the hamb.... My 33 pickup has disc brakes, a 4 bar front end, billet aluminum valve covers to clear the roller rockers. It has a tilt steering wheel, and a GM 625 steering box. I don't think any of those parts are traditional. So sorry If the lenght of his front end bothers you...... go read a different thread..... but Thanks... you keep coming back to this one to educate everyone.

For those of you who think that this is a rat rod, just wait 'til it's done. I think you will see that it is neither a rat or a traditional rod, but it is indeed a DRAGROD.

Thanks for the nice words. I haven't been able to work on it much for the last couple of weeks, but I am ready to put on an all-out assault to finish this turd by June.

Like I said, It's disease. I'm far from being done with my two current builds, and I'm chompin' at the bit to get the next frame mocked up for this setup. I have always thought that these side draft setups were wicked cool. Now that the Chinese are casting these intakes, they are affordable. I'll post the build on this one, too. Besides this induction system, it will feature a quick change rear.

Actually, these are 40s. This is a stock 350, and I'm building more of a looker than a runner. Still, anything that weighs 2000 lbs. has to haul ass with a v-8 in it. I got the carbs from a guy in Italy that rebuilds them and matches them to your setup. These are Solex carbs and the whole set of four was only $700 plus freight. The stacks were another $80 from another source on EBAY. Want the links?
