History Roanoke Drag Strip Pictures...

I can honestly say, this is the first time I've seen two Renaults going at it on a drag strip. But, the entire series of photos, absolutely cool. Butch/56sedandelivery.

 

In Gallery 1, They need to update their "current" Victory Stadium shot...they tore it down several years ago....This pic was taken a day or two after demolition started

GREAT! GREAT! Pictures................Coul'nt believe it, when I saw thr Post!!!! I have a Picture somewhere?....Of myself, in '47 Ford tudor (SBC), "HALFAST".......Runnin' a Roanke local in '52/'53 Chevy,(SBC)........With THE MAN (Flagger!) about 3 feet in the AIR. Local Photographer, Took ALOT of photos at thr startin' line, and would sell'em. Saw TOMMY IVO.....That's TV's "Tommy IVO!!!, run his FOUR-ENGINE DRAGSTER there!!!!!

I was in the crew that raced there in 1958 -1960. The car owner and driver was Gene "Poodle" Curtis. The chief mechanic and engine builder was Eugene "Lugie" Whitt. I recently visited the site on the way to see friends in Troutville, VA (just northeast of Roanoke, VA). I could still visualize the famed shutdown uphill area and the old mountain goat return dirt road. I am really glad that someone had the foresite to take these pictures. I downloaded them and have p***ed them around to many friends. We also use to run a lot at Piedmont Drag Strip south of Greensboro, NC. I wish we had taken pictures. I guess we spent all of our money on cars and women and did not have enough left over for a camera and film. Is you know of anyone who has pictures taken at Piedmont Drag Strip in the late 50's through the mid 60's, I sure would like to get copies. Thanks.

That is my grandfather with Richard petty keister Terry I have the original pic he was the manager of the drag strip. If anyone has any pics of him or info about him please let me know
