came up with this idea for the deck after some contemplating about the pickup idea,,,,,,this is a piece of a spare shoebox hood I had,,,I was thinking the contour would work perfectly as a deck,,,obviously, the tape area is merely a mock-up to show where metal would be welded in,,,,,,In the end, I think this works better than the whole ranchero/camino idea......

Wow! that actually fits really well!! I think you're gonna need some sort of peak back there in that area anyway. Nice job Jim!

This looks better! I liked the ranchero idea but this looks sharp. Agreed on the peak. Call me crazy but I kind of like that single chrome fin too! Gives it a defined look.

Jim says, "It has a peak. That's why I used it :D and the chrome follows the peak perfectly down the decklid." (He's too lazy to log into his own account and is making me type for him ).

  8. Is there going to be a trunk opening cut out eventually or a sealed up deck?
Either way i like the concept.

man i really dig your "get in there and cut some **** up " at***ude, but i just hate the driection this whole project is going now. you said you couldnt make it a convertible anymore becuase the wrap around gl*** would be to much money?? i dont get doing all this work now because the windshield would be to expensive, you could of done it in lexan and it would of looked awesome.

more power to you man, i really hope you prove me wrong... i really do.

Am I missing something or is this a different car? It looked as though the older update was bare metal?

As I said, I acquired a solid parts car and replaced much of the metal with better metal....a lot of things on that old pic were "patched together"......there are still some areas that are pieced in, but overall, there are a lot less seams to weld up....

sometimes i need to roll the car outside due to limited shop space (the car is at my detailing business which has only one bay), and I don't want the car in bare metal just yet..

It isn't only the windshield i would have needed,,,,i need the windshield frame as well, and the surrounding metal & cowl pieces,,,, which would involve buying a parts car,,,,which I just can't swing right now,,,,,hence, the chopped/shortened roof and orig. shoebox windshield,,,,,,,If i had unlimited $$, yes, I still would have loved to do the wraparound windshield, but unfortunately, money happens to be a factor for me,,,,I want to get the car done and start having fun with it,,,,,sometimes you just have to prioritize, and sacrifice, whether it's truly want you want or not,,,,

In my humble opinion, you can build and build and build forever and a daybut nothing plasters a **** eating grin on your face like going for your first ride! Keep on keeping on man.

    moving right along,,,,todays progress,,,,
started construction of the deck,,,,shiny new metal...:D:cool:

need to build the lip for the lid to sit on,,, graft the skins together, and build bracing for the inside,,,

it'll be a fully functional decklid, possibly electrically powered,,,

AND,,i get to use my cool little chrome fin trim down the peak (see pic)..

anyone local have a spare 50 ford decklid (must be a 50 because i want to use the stock hinges,,which i've always just loved)... i can cut up for parts?...

condition is unimportant......pm me if you can help me out..

hope to wrap up the general shape by tomorrow,,,,,,,:D

I hope you kept all of the other stuff you had patched together, it was cool stuff. At any rate, when you have that many hours into something, how much does the cost of a window really male a difference. Heck, maybe some HAMBer could have hooked you up, your threads get THOUSANDS of views. Good luck, I know how things go when you want them to be perfect, amazing how things snowball. Can't wait to see the next rendition, you build like we sketch on paper, cool stuff.
