It all started when I bought a set of ford steelies off ebay where the guy claimed they were 5 on 4 1/2. SHame on me for mounting the tires before trying them because they don't fit.. I did a rough measurement and thought they were the late 5 on 5" pattern, so I bought adapters. Turns out I'm an idiot and they are really 5 on 5 1/2! I give up! Does anyone know where I can get 4 1/2 to 5 1/2 adapters? They seem to be discontinued by just about every manufacturer and I don't want to spend a fortune on custom spun billet pieces. I guess I can just buy steelies.. Stockton wheel wants about 100 a pop for the ones I need. Anybody know of a cheaper source?
I feel your pain but it's another example of "measure twice, cut once". Hope everything works out for you. Frank
at least my biggest pain so far has been a bolt on.. could be worse.. Advice on wheel or adapter suppliers would be helpful..
man I am with you! some ***** at carlisle sold me a set of cragars one year.. 50 bucks for all 4.. the damn things turned out to be part of a freaking display! each one was a different bolt pattern! *******s.. in your case.. I wonder if it would be cheaper to have a machine shop redrill the rear axles.. as for me.. I now have four of the most expensive tubing benders in existance
man that ****s... i hate ****s like that who sell **** and **** people around... don't know where to get adapters but good luck and leave the ****er some piss poor negative feedback on his eBay account he deserves it.
Hi rodwerkz, Try finding International truck wheels. I'm running a Ford 8" rear and early truck wheels bolted on 15"X4.5. Still I would advise taking a tape measure just to make sure.
I think I have some of the 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern wheels, what size do you need? What size are the onse you have now?
There used to be a wheel measuring tool for about $20 which measured the bolt hole and bolt pattern. Anyone still make one? I think the one I remember was from a "Universal Tool Company" or similar. Really useful in the junkyards. Dave
Here's a cheapie bolt circle diameter gage on Ebay - Starting bid of $2.50 - about what I paid at a swap meet for one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4537259322&category=43998&sspagename=WDVW
You can try calling WheelSmith in Santa Ana for steelies 800-854-8937. A friend of mine used to be a dealer for them and their prices were good.
