Cool place. I'm from Maine originally and last year I met a blues singer from Mississippi that had been to Owl's Head, Maine and she'd actually purchased 8 acres of land to build a home on and retire.

Small world, thanks for the link.

If you like that one you might like another one of a different flavor. Our club, Gold Coast Roadsters, meet at the Mendenhall Automobile Museum in Buellton. Check it out at Mendenhalls's Museum.com.

The Trimotor was a replica called a Bushmaster, but you would never know to look at it. I watched it take off once, all that noise and you waited and waited for it to pick up speed. Once in the air it just floated by....

I volunteered at Owls Head many moons ago, learned to drive a Model T, rode in a Curved Dash Olds, rode in a Woods Electric, drove a '32 V8 roadster, changed the oil on a Ford Woody (what a mess).

They are open year 'round. In the summer they have themed shows once or twice a month for pre-1990 autos, trucks, bikes, etc. The museum also has a fleet of vintage and replica aeroplanes that are flown regulary.

It is a great place to watch history drive on by....

I use to live in Maine until recently so I know the place well. It's a nice museum and a nice ride getting there. If you head up in the dead of summer avoid US Route 1 for as long as possible.

The auto auction can be a great day as there's usually a ton of stuff - - mostly uninteresting but some nice ones come across the block during the day.
