Reference for a '32 Ford 5 Window.

  1. All my panels are patterned off original bits and are crowned when need be and all the moulding profiles are correct. If you are fussy, the roadster aftermarket panels don't cut it(and they are crap).

  3. JJ,
    What is up with us?
You haven't finished your '35 yet and are starting on the deuce.
I haven't finished my '34 and have started on my deuce.

I'm loving the info in this thread - the timing is perfect.

Mine should be down to bare metal by the end of the weekend.

I suppose I should start a build thread, huh?

Well like I was just telling Scootie Tang aka ScooterMcRad as of right now I am doing more mental lifting then actual physical with the '32. Just trying to line things up so that when the time is ready we can start putting in some time on it. I am working on the '35 for sure until it's finished. The '32 is now at the shop and ready to start getting some attention from my friend Daemon who's probably the best metal man I know. He's a fucking Wizard with sheetmetal and he's going to make this look easy I think. I hope to learn a ton from him and prove to others that even the shittiest bodies can be brought back from the depths. Waiting to hear on a decklid right now.

    Jeffrey...
Glad to see your getting going on this car. If you need one, I have a decent firewall you could borrow for awhile to get that little jewel back into shape. I agree with the others that you need to build the body on the chassis you plan to use. The one set of coupe fenders I have are way rough in the bottom front, so I don't think that mine would help you there. Are you going to use a factory tank? You might use that as a reference in the rear...set the distance between it and the body. If you don't have a tank, I have a nice original that that you are welcome to borrow as well...
    Good luck...

I would suggest going ahead and buying the decklid you are going to use...that being said, I have a pretty nice fiberglass one that you are welcome to use as well...

Thanks thequietwon I appreciate the offers!!! I have an Ionia Frame that I have had for a couple years that we are building the car on so I guess we'll move forward and not worry about an original. I also have one of those Brookville flat firewalls that I am going to use for now until I modify it with an aluminum firewall....since this is going to be a drag coupe after all haha!!! I might take you up on the original offer to get everything square though.

As for the tank, I don't planning on running one. I am going to 86 the tank and bob the rear horns tucking them close to the body with a push bar out back.

  8. Did you ever find a deck lid? HRP

You know how they use to take a coupe and cut the top off it to make a roadster.....

It would almost be worth it to take is top and put it on a Brookville roadster body and make a coupe.

Except I would have to find $10k before I even began to make progress. Then I would have to shrink the roof section so it fit the constraints of the roadster cockpit opening and then lengthen the doors to fit the top. I'm thinking that would be more work bonesy!!!! You could always grow sick of the one you have and gift me yours.....:D:D:D

I like the idea of a flat alum firewall. That's what most of the rods had in my area in the 60s. I have no idea why I didn't do a flat one.

I like the type of channel on the red coupe, too. I vote channel, after all, it is an east coast car... now :)

This car eventually will be an homage to my favorite 50's hots rods including Satan Coupe, Baradini Roadster and a few others. That aluminum firewall was one of the coolest parts of the Satan Coupe so I am pretty intent on including it. Channeling the car is yet to be decided upon.

Oh yes, I do have some work cut out. I am going to keep following your 5w thread if you'd get on it and update it soon haha!!!:D:D 5w are by far the best looking aren't they?

That's better then no chance at all!!

dont know how far along you are, just saw this

hats off to you for taking this on and saving one

mine was a lot better to start off with, but the bottom 5" was still gone along with the pillars. had a good friend of mine and one of the very best show me how its done.

a few ideas that worked good for us....

get the rails and floor on the frame first, you'll need to heat the rails at the back and suck them down

we put a new firewall in the chassis - lowered the cowl onto the firewall to set the front height - then blocked the rear (measure a finished car to get the rear height) - then fabbed pillars to the rails

then it was just patch panels and tapping out the dents

It was surprisingly roomy. Everyone that sat in it was shocked that that there was head room and leg room. The seats where bomber influenced and on the floor. If you go that route, you should be happy.

  20. TO ALL YOU 5 WINDOW GUYS. YOU MAY OR MAY NOT KNOW THIS BUT UNITED PACIFIC IS REPOPING THE 5 WINDOW. I talked to Dave at U.P. today and they are going to sell quaters, doors, deck lids, sub frames and any part you my need to save your 32 5 window. Dave asured me that all the parts are fitted to stock a 5 window to insure the correct fit.At this time they have some parts ready to go but ecpect to have everything by early next year.Ask for Dave and tell him you talked to me.

    I'm reallly looking at a 32 5W for sale....

While talking to JJ this week, I started looking around the 'net for similar projects. Amazingly enough, I found something out there (and lost the link) about somebody using a 33/34 coupe floor in a 5W. I just happen to have access to one. Anybody confirm or deny this? I dont know if this is one of those "anything will fit with a sawzall and a welder-things" or what.

Rexrogers, hope you dont mind if I post a link to your thread:

I'm waiting for the UAPAC 5W subrails to come out for my car, I don't feel like hacking some Brookville roadster subrails to fit, plus the UAPAC's have the correct bracing already on them. UAPAC's drip rails fit perfect, header panels fit perfect, heard the door latches are nice as well as the rear panel below the decklid fit great. Sounds like they have quality control under control.

I'm all messed up now that I decided to go with roadster quarters out back. I don't think waiting for the UAPAC stuff would do me much better then the Brookville units.

One that's got me confused is should I be buying the roadster upper and lower panels of the decklid? Should everything that relates to those quarters now be roadster stuff? Bracing and all?

The subrails in the back are relatively the same from the doors back, even the subrail extension is the same on roadster and 5W. The difference is in the rocker panel. The roadster and 5W are completely different shape, the roadster quarters are longer since the doors are shorter. I need to post pictures up of each once I dig them out. The difference on the quarter panel besides the curvature above the wheelwell is also the rain channel area and upper belt line. Most people that use roadster quarts on a 5W cut the roadster quarters along the upper belt line and graft them into the 5W quarters. You still want to use the 5W panel below and above the decklid, but the roadster can be modified to work. UAPAC is selling the under decklid panel now and fitment is spot on, I have one for my 5W. The only above panel available right now is the roadster and it needs to be modified to work.

Here's the link to when the Rolling Bones did the roadster quarters on Poteet's 5W. Pretty good writeup.

A picture is worth 1000 words on this one! The lightbuld above my head lit up...anybody got a link for the subrail write-up? Searched Street Rodder and didn't come up with anything...

This is the stuff I'm looking for...how to do it right!

  30. If I saw it right, the UAPAC sub-rails are complete with the rockers. This seems like it would be a big help it the bottom of your car was missing, or to anyone unchanelling a body.

Anyone seen the parts or know more details?
