My very first car was a '52 Plymouth Cranbrook. Paid ten bucks for it, and drove it home. I was 12 at the time! Looking forward to your progress!
Patched up the rest of the floor today. The plan: Get rid of the rust. Some problems with the engine/cooling. Water in oil, etc. Will try to replace the head gasket and water pump. Lowering. Maybe some shaving. Want dual carbs/dual exhaust. First of all I'll get it running till summer, drive it and enjoy it, and take it from there.
i love getting goodies...the car looks great. i love cranbrooks, i almost picked up a 53 a few years ago, but i hesitated and it was gone...
good luck with it! We're currently working on a '50 plym in hopes of having it done by the time driving weather comes back to new england!
I love your plymouth it looks A lot like my plymouth cambridge did back in 2007 when I first got mine but im glad to see your progress on that beautiful automobile allways loved them old plymouths I should have mine down this year if I can stop driving it hahaha. Have fun with it cant wait to see more photos Thanks for sharing
you might want to do the water distrabution tube when you do the water pump. cool car i have owned five of them and my current project is a 51 two door hardtop.
Man, that looks good. Looking forward to seeing this finished. Just for the record, that little spot you had on your floor was nothing. This picture shows you what rust looks like. Does that make you feel better about the condition of your car? Gene
very typical for Mopars of this era to have the front floors rust through. I know a gentleman who worked for Desoto in '53, he told me that the gl*** seals on these cars leaked from day one. He told me a story about how they thought water was leaking in through the decklid. They ended up putting someone in the trunk with a flashlight to spot leaks while another person would run water down from the roof of the car. These cars rot from the inside out. My '53 Desoto has the same problem, only more throughout. I also worked on a '53 Chrysler that had the same issue.
Very nice car by the way. Very cl***y look. Do you happen to have any better pictures of the hood ornament?
Boy that picture of the white steering wheel really brought back memories. When I was a little guy (maybe 8 - 9 years old) my dad had a 53 Cranbrook station wagon. We were always going to junk yards to keep the cars running at the time and one day He spots this white steering wheel in one of the wrecks and just had to have it for his daily driver. Have no idea why he had a wheel puller with him that day but sure enough he did and I watched for the first time in my life how you remove a steering wheel. I remember it took a lot of effort even with the puller but Dad was really happy to have it. Back then I bet he didn't pay anymore than a dollar for it either. Thank you for the memories.
