Hot Rods 37-38 Chevy coupe guys. What seat???

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Tugmaster, Mar 8, 2011.

  1. My car did not come with a seat. What are you using if it is not a original seat? I was thinking maybe early S-10 or even a 3rd seat out of a minivan. I would rather not narrow one if I don't have to but I can. Thanks, Todd

I am putting 03 Lexus 6 way bucket seats in the coupe with a narrow console to hold the shifter. It is tight but it looks good and the seats were only $50. I'd send you a pic but the car is tore all apart and in the body shop at the moment.

  3. That sounds different. Didn't even think of buckets. I was kind of leaning towards a bench seat. I'll have to think on that one. Although 52Hardtop put buckets in his vert and they are sweet!! Todd

school bus seats are plentiful and cheap. fit one in my coupe nicely, looks old timey too.
the other option i considered was building a wood frame bench

i get what you mean i do think that they are way to much $$, like i said mine came with the car when i bought it so of course iam going to use it, but if it had not been with, i would be doing the same thing you are doing. have you looked on craigslist for some cool old buckets out of something from the 60's? they pop up on there all the time here in milwaukee.. just a thought

    Hey Tugg,
I kow of a place in Thompson that has some seats that I am sure will work fine for you. He is usually fairly inexpensive also. How soon do you need the seat? I need to make a trip up there soon also.

Any fat fendered coupe or sedan can benefit from what I used in my '40 Chevy coupe (which I no longer own).

I found that seat pedestals from an Chevy Astro van are the perfect height and later model Camaro/Firebird bucket seats bolt right on them.

  14. Chuck,

Regreatably I am not even close to needing a seat. However, If you are going up their let me know. I would ge very interested in checking it out. Todd

I used a pair of early grand am buckets out of a junkyard on my 40 chevy coupe. Original upholstry was kinda a roll/pleat arrangement. Mine also didn't have a back seat-business coupe-and the grand am back fit perfect.

A friend had a channeled 37 coupe and the seat was out of a 67 nova, very flat splitback and narrow, looked very good and went well with the late fifties look.

I put S-10 Blazer seats in my 37 Chevy. We removed the headrest and are in the process of recovering them. We are leaving the armrest. I had to fab some supports in order to get them high enough. The width is perfect. Good luck...
