I had that exact combo in a 39 ford coupe years ago, swap the glide for a 350 turbo, you will be glad you did.
all of you are blessed, enjoy it as I know all of you will, your dad will be amazed how everyone will ralley around him to help on this deal. enjoy every minute of it...
Wow, Thats very cool. Why not soup up the flatty? Either way it will be a bitchin' car when done and have tons of memories.
THAT is a fantastic story and really love that pic of you and your brother....having the car and finally building it is so cool....but that drive to the cemetery will be priceless! Please keep us updated.....
Was able to visit last weekend and have a few updates, frame is currently being boxed. .40 over 327 and rebuilt powerglide ready to install. Dad is pretty excited.
No that was my first attempt at rattle canning a set when I was a young lad. Dad wasnt too crazy about them. Looking back I guess it didn/t rust there. LOL
Winter in Ks. short cold days. Finally was able to go back and visit the coupe, got some updated pix. Front end is way cool, and tires are just rollers guys.
What a neat story! It great to see it finally getting built and I hope you all have a blast with the build and many miles of cruising with the old girl. It's so cool to see that your Dad hung onto it all those years when he could have easily sold it and pocketed the cash.
That's an awesome old photo, Awedrod. You and your brother leanin' against the '55, your dad and...maybe gramps?...on the other side of the car. Which of the boys is you, and which one is your brother? The one on the left looks like he's planning what's to be done to the car, and bruiser on the right looks ready to pick up a grinder or somethin'. So cool that you guys are gonna fix 'er up. Good luck. Have fun.
More updated pics. 8" ford sitting loosely, x braces, and got headers ceramic coated. Starting to look like it may move under its own power someday.
Brother Rod and the rest of the HAMB family, Just a little more history on the car. Like Rodney said, Mom passed away several years ago. The last birthday present she bought for me was that set of headers, found them at the Shriners swap meet in KC. Near flawless, bargain priced. When Dad finally got serious about putting the car on the road, we worked out a deal for many of the car parts I had hoarded, scrounged, bought and traded for. That set of headers was in on the deal with the large journal 327, Powerglide and 8 inch trac loc rear axle. Dad really wanted a set of coated headers he finally figured out. He had them done in Joplin, MO. Same neck of the woods as the HAMB Drags. Tires and wheels, Dad found them on craigslist for a can't pass them up price. But they were in Kansas City, he isn't. Called the guy and went and picked them up after work. Dad was tickled when I brought them to him. Bought the seats in Joplin, MO on his birthday on February 18, might be a little luck in that deal too. We spent the entire day after that gambling in Oklahoma. Dad did not do too well, but lets say I had the best day gambling I ever had. Same slot machine hit 3 times in a 2 hour period. I got car money now. When talking to Dad this past weekend he was talking about when he bought the coupe, it was only the 2nd time he had ever missed a house payment. His house payments were only $45.00 a month. Brother Rod, didn't, mean to hijack your post. Just had to add a little more to the rest of the story. Bob
