I looked on there and found a universal 3 speed shifter. I am looking to adapt the shifter to the floor and wondered if this would work for my 235 chevy engine with 3 speed 341 muncie.
I think I know the shifter you're talking about and it's kinda neat looking. Like anything, though, I'm sure you get what you pay for. I've driven a few cars with cheap-o floor shift conversions and they are super sloppy. My hunch is that these would be the same. That said; I too would be interested to hear if anybody's had any experience with this particular shifter.
i liked to old "mystery shifter" . always a mystery for what gear your in ! actually a good shifter for the time ................. steve
well, scored a deal on ebay. will be receiving the shifter soon. I'll be sure to let everybody know how crappy it is. If it works decently, I'm good with that. Pretty much everything in my life is "decently done".
Universal just means it hangs up and breaks the trans quicker. At least the Sparkomatic Universal shifter I put on my 51 Merc in 1963 did. A Hurst Mystery shifter or Mr Gasket universal shifter isn't all that bad though.
well, I guess we'll have to wait and see. I can promise that I will not be driving crazy for a long time. That will give me plenty of time to figure it out. It it sticks, I'll buy a new one.
i put a universal 3 speed shifter in my 45 gmc, the only time it jamed was in the middle of an interections, so i carried a long pry bar that i could reach down and pop it it back into place, i got so fast the truck never stopped rolling.
Back in the day before you could by floor shifters, we use to make them out of 49-51 Fords 3 speed shifters.
ive gotten a few mr gasket ones to work on a early chevy before. just gotta make a few brackets yourself.
If it only is in there long enough to mock up everything for a better one, then it serves it's purpose cheaply....
Hey just curious, the dude i bought my trans from threw this shifter in with the deal, and im putting it on my 210. Did it work out for you?
