Thank you kindly! It was certainly a challenge, but I found that there is a TON of literature on the Model T speed secrets, so I just did it the way the "ol' timers" did it in the beginning.

Finding the era correct parts was not as hard as you might think. Since it is a depression era build, they would have used whatever they could get their hands on for little or no money. The way I see it, everything automotive, aircraft or farm implement related from between 1910 to 1932 is fair game and realistic: Tractor, car or WWI era aircraft mags, aircraft or early auto gauges, handles, knobs, mirrors, carbs, toolboxes, etc.

I threw in a few touches of the late 30's, 40's, 40's, and early 60's just to give it the feel of having survived and being driven over the last 80 years.

Somehow I just luck out finding allot of these "oddball" goodies :D

    Harley,

I also forgot to mention last time that It is GREAT to see another "young gun" under 20 building pre-war hotrods and having a really great appreciation for the history and heritage.

I have been following your thread for quite some time and must say that I am quite impressed! Your '28 has such a great look and is coming along nicely. Keep up the great work! :D

    Hi Clayton!

Every time I see this car, I can't help but think this is just the coolest ride! I'm REALLY diggin the brake upgrade you have planned. It'll be awesome to finally see the car (and yourself) in person. Looking forward to it!

  7. Hmmm... could we be seeing some "overhead valvage" with this new engine?... hmmm :D

Thank you kindly Andy, looking forward to it myself! :D

The brakes will be an interesting project..though it may be "shelved" for the time being. Read (and heard) a few things about those brakes being totally "worthless" in regards to stopping power....so I might try and build a set of mechanical "Rocky Mountains" for the front. We'll see.

I do plan on it, just not at first. I still have the '28 Chev head and all of its goodies boxed and on the shelf and would love to put it to use with a Jern "Thunderbolt" kit, but I just want to get a good solid running engine in the car that I don't have to worry about first.

It won't be a shabby motor by any means...you can bet on that :D I have a really nice '26 block and crank and plan on having it ported/relieved, bored at least .060 over (still toying about going .080 or .100 over) with a 3/4 race cam and twin downdraft Zenith singles on a Riley twin intake.

I'm also adding a Ruxtell 2-speed axle with 3:1 gears in addition to the Chicago O.D. I already have....12 speeds forward, 6 in reverse...

    :D

    ..need I say more?

obviously a long way off but your chopped top looks just how I envisioned mine, so it really struck a chord with me.

My original plan was to put in a Studebaker 259 and incorporate various other parts of a 1960 Studebaker Lark, dash steering wheel/column and build a lakester style roadster. I don't know if it is clear from the photo but the body behind the seat is actually from a touring. The quarters on the body were rusted out from being leaned against a barn, so I after staring at it for a long time and mocking the pieces up I trimmed off the rot and the touring seat back just slipped right in. I screwed it in to hold it before final welding. The doors were hammered so I just cut of the top edges and welded them in place, I am just going to fill in with a flat skin where the door would have been.

I have a front axle from a 1935 coupe and the rear end as well. I was planning on split wishbones and ford truck drums up front with 1939 hydraulic brakes in the rear.

Of course that was two and a half years ago, I have been going through a divorce and I may get to keep the roadster but the direction may change if and when I start on it again. We will see.

I said it years ago and I'll say it again, this is one of the coolest Ford roadsters of any year that I've seen.

    Great job.

I'd been thinking of going to look for a copy of the new "Little Pages", but now that I see they've reserved their best content for it, I'm determined to find one!

    Congratulations, Clayton.

Clayton, Sure hope you didn't purchase all they had. Was looking forward to this one. Kind of hoped that the R&C Little Pages would ease the vacuum of Hop Up being gone . . . . . Looking forward to getting one in the AM.
The pix from the Little Pages sure show off your "T" ! It has quite the stance. In other words it is *****IN" ! ! !

    Hey Clayton,
I loved working on laying out the pages on your T in the Little Pages. It is so refreshing to see a young guy doing something different than most kids out there. Ever since I saw photos of your car a couple years ago it really inspired me.

The older I get the more I dig stock br*** era cars, but you are learning about a whole genre that is starting to get lost as all the old restorers unfortunately leave us. Anyway, I'm really glad kids like you are carrying on a tradition that could get lost as our modern world becomes overtaken by so many distractions. Keep up the excellent work!

I'd love to see your T in person someday!

    Aaron,

This was a real honor to have my car featured in such a fantastic publication. You really put allot of time and effort into the "Little Pages" and it really shows.

I could not be MORE pleased with how the feature on my car (as well as the rest of the issue!) turned out! Thank you!

Me and the T will both be at Bonneville for Speed Week 2012. If you will be up that way, I would be happy to give you a ride :D

  21. 8 copies... just how many bathrooms DO you have in your house :D?

Congrats Clayton- it's great to see you and your car getting the recognition you deserve!!!

I certainly agree, they do make that thing look good! It actually looks lower to me in those pics due to the low camera angle....not to mention way meaner! :D

were you able to find a copy?

Thanks AJ! I have to agree, I am quite pleased with how the photos turned out and it is really nice to see a publication like Rod & Custom feature a car of the early days of hot rodding.

Clayton, I was able to get one ! Stater Bros Grocery failed me, but the dreaded "Barnes and Noble" must of had 12 or more !
Would you be doing auto graphed ones ? It would make that one very special !

[FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica]I realized something as I was looking at this article last night:

Now I CAN'T EVER change this car...I think awful things will happen to me if I do. lol! [IMG]

Well, it is getting a new motor and a few other little things before our big "Bonneville Run" in 2012...which should be an EPIC VOYAGE to say the least!
