The current issue of The Rodders Journal has a great feature on the Frank Morawski restoration of the Fred Carrillo Roadster, a 33 year project. I stopped on my Lyndwood in 1991, time to finish this project, spend money and do the pain in the *** parts of a restoration. Thanks for the boot in the rear, ALGON stacks went to the plater Tuesday, headers will be going out next, then the Moon tank for proper 1962 restoration, polish the Americam 5spokes, ***emble the SBC, not fun stuff, but it is time the get this done for Hershey 2011

I put a lot of money in the motor 20 years ago, it better run!:eek:Everything that needed to be remachined was, balanced, oiled and packed in plastic bags. Need to have new drive gear made for the ALGON injection system, and have the Vertex checked. Dumb in some ways, because a motor can't be judged from the outside, but too late to cut corners now. :(

kind of ironic, the next project for Frank Morawski is his drag master ch***is that looks a lot like your project. A few of us have been begging to buy it from him but as usual, he doesn't get rid of anything. I'll be watching this build thread

Spike? That's the push bar, back in the early 1960's rails were push started. "Alley Oop" had the Chevy pickup with rags around the bumper in the 1959-60 era, then the Jeep with the oversize bumper.

  11. I was probably there that day Bob. Pretty much every Sunday from Sept 1960 to the end of the '63 season.
Frank is at the Amelia Island Concourse this weekend, then an AACA event in Charlotte for a Junior, and Hershey for the Senior.

He'll also have the roadster at the York Nostalgia show in July where, as you know, we're having a HUGE Lyndwood gathering. Restorations in progress are more than welcome.

I'm going to try to make that York, Pa. event, "Alley Oop" hasn't been there since June 17, 1961, sure would like to know how it ran up to braking second gear. The next day at Dover, N. Y. it won its 5th straight Low ET of the meet with a 128.86 11.18 run. It held the National NHRA B/D record at one time, wonder if those Records can be researched?

Great weather today! Did yard work, then rolled "Alley Oop" outside for the first time in 2011. Cleaned out and organized things on one side of the garage so I have a safe work area. First thing I want to rebuild is the ALGON injection system. Took lots of photos, will take things apart tomorrow evening.

Sounds like a good time Bob! I'd like to retake this photo next year with Swamp Rat III, 50 years after the original was taken. Not sure if Don was driving, but Swamp Rat III was on tour doing exibition runs. "Alley Oop" had run the main bearings, and a crew member made the trip back to the shop and fished out the old ones they thrown in the trash the night before. Used mains were installed and the car ran Low ET of the meet. I'm sure Swamp Rat III ran faster, but the exibition runs didn't count. The car is being restored to how it looked June 17, 1962 in my avitar. Nothing is being over restored, those stick weld spatter markes you Dad put down in 1959 are a highlight feature to me. :)

Nice set up. I also have an old digger from Garlits I bought a couple of years ago and close to finishing it. I am not alterning it in any way and even purchased a stick welder to keep it like it was Flathead and all--Nothing like welding PATINA to make it authenic!

Hitch hiked to Dover that day, and got to see Garlits run...every thing then seemed bigger than life, and the Swamp Rat was the loudest thing I had ever heard.

I don't think he's going to have to change his signature YET!! Proof is on the showfield at Hershey. Get working. SHould have lots of time now that you're off the OTHER site. As Binger used to say, any word that can't be spelled differant ways isn't worth useing.

I could do that, might get more people kicking me along. Boxed the NOS aircraft fuel pump for the ALGON injectors and the worn out drive gear so I can get an estimate on having a new one made. From this day forward the restoration is just a "Watch Bob spend money" project. I'll need to buy a Moon tank, buy camshaft, followers, chain, and gears, get headers coated, pay for chrome on ALGON parts, buy brake parts, buy Firestone slicks & tubes buy the other items I've overlooked. GET HAMB ALLIANCE to save money and buy these parts from vendors here.
