For a minute there I thought I was looking at my 55 Plymouth. Same faded color paint, rusted out rockers, and some rust in the floor and trunk area. Even the same harbor freight roll arounds. Watch out they can jump out from under the car when your pushing it. Good luck on your build. Looks like we both are about the same stage. i'll keep my eye on your build.

  4. As someone who built a '56 Belvedere gasser-inspired rod with a 440, I really dig your project. Ugly? No way! I also think the 55-56 Plymouths are good-looking, generally overlooked cars that make cool rods. Good luck......I'll be watching your progress.

Has all the right lines to make a cool gasser, and even better being a sedan. I like that it's not your typical gasser body!

  6. I know it's been posted before, but couldn't resist. After all, it's a thread about a mid-fifties Plymouth........:D 440, fenferwell headers...even our choice of wheels is similar.

  7. that will make a nice ride, cant wait to see it finshed. definetly go 440 and fill it with a 440source stroker kit. keep the pics coming...

Man-oh-man! This is a cool build.

The radiused wheel wells (like Animal's) make the car look so much tougher!

Don't let the nay-sayers get you down. You probably have to do more fab than I did with my '55 Chev gasser. That's cool. Keep it going! Have you decided on a color or theme?

    Later,

    Mike

no color scheme as of yet, definetly going to look like a 50's-60's gasser though. straight axle front end and probably going with a 4 speed.

  10. Im really starting to dig the idea you got going, & the body lines are so sweet. The car does not seem that rotted from the pics. 440 and four speed will definetly wake it up...
A shit ton of flake in the paint really makes it pop out. just my thoughts...

i havent even thought of paint yet, lol still early in the build. which is funny because i usually invision a paint scheme right off. the outside of the body is really solid, most of the rust is in the floors and rocker, which ill order this week sometime and hopefully have them done by the end of the month. i finished taking most of the paint and surface rust off the body today. havent uploaded pics of that yet. im thinking i will radius the back wheel wells. i really like the fact that you hardly ever see one of the 50's plymouths and even more rare is a gasser one. im really excited about this build and have been doin at least something to it every day. a money shortage is the only hold back. hopefully i can do other things while i collect more money for the build. ill keep updating as i get things done. i really want to document this one because i dont have many pics of my hudson pickup build as i built it.

I think your build is gonna come out pretty cool. I love the idea of a 440 and hope you go with the 4 speed. What rear end do you plan to use? subscribed

  18. I always thought the 55/56 plymouths looked good. I like your plans on the gasser theme. But then I love gassers, even before they were cool. If I didnt have so many projects and planned projects, I'd be looking for a plymouth and put a screaming 340 in it.

im waiting on the rockers and floor pans to get here, so today i primered part of the drivers quarter, pulled the gas tank and found the whole top was rusted out, which is fine because i planned to run a round aluminum fuel cell in the trunk anyway. and i also made a cardboard template for the cover im making for the spare tire well and got the metal cut for it, just need to weld it in.

I'll agree with what the others have said about the car being solid. Where I'm at that is minimal rust and would be a no brainer to fix. I like your vision and drive, just don't lose it!

A 55 Plymouth and a Henry J gasser build on the front page this morning! It's gonna be a great day today!!

Kool car...i miss my 56 dodge..i had a 440 and a 4 speed in it..the car was a blast to drive on the street..i found a tunnel ram to replace the low rise 2x4 that i had originally put on the car when i first got it running..the tunnel ram woke my 440 up..it would pass everything on the road except the gas station..

  26. yeah the plymouth really looks solid, not much rot at all. yeah i really like the idea of a 55 plymouth gasser too, havent ever seen one yet and i cant wait to see how yours turns out. that car just screams a stroked 440, i used one of 440source's 496 kits for my 383 and its a real brute! and it was cheap to build to. good luck and keep them pics coming, im on deployment and this is how i get my fix.......till i get home and work on my stuff.

picked up a straight axle i think will work under the 55 today from a friend. need to find out what it takes to convert it to disc brakes. its going to be 65 out tomorrow, so i took the time to get the hudson ready to drive. found out the guy i bought the floor pans and rockers from for the 55 just shipped them today, so i will probably get them this weekend and start on that. i will update with pics as soon as i start on them.
