:confused:Here goes. I like old rods but basically they keep changing over time. Here is my 34. stretched and Z'd frame, Old school hammered drop front axle, Un chopped, Raked channel, Mustang steering box. Was channeled years ago, stock floorpan still bolted to frame. Initial thought was weather channeled or rotted the same procedure would be required to fix with unchannel and a top chop in mind. Now I'm not sure. Gotten so used to the look and comments not sure what to do. Latest of many steering boxes is Mustang that needs replacing. Do I go vega cross steer or keep up the old style I have? What do you think?

I think speedway has "new" manual mustang steering boxes if you like the set up. Don't think they cost too much. That shouldn't matter anyways never skimp on steering and breaks. Safety first.

Lately I've been thinking that most of us are unchanneling to build a style that rarely was seen in our home towms back then?

Your car style looks like what I recall from the mid 60s when I first saw a few old coupes around here.

PS ..If you do decide to replace the floor; there is a thread tonight about a drilled Model A axle, and he also showed a pic of the coolest repro entire floor and sill pan..

EDIT; here is the link to the floorpan

i think a few cosmetic changes would spruce it up.. little engine detail for an older look, maybe shoot the firewall white, wheels and tires, and keep on truckin! your model a looks familiar were u at brads cookout?

i believe reply will be solely based on age! for this OF, working on 70, i think it is perfect . i am sure the younger want it high boy chopped! if you take a peek at my profile car, it is as if i had completed shortly after starting it. i believe it to be "period" correct! it is yours and needs to fit you!

Get a new mustang box. Loose the scoop. Maybe a different set of wheels and tires then drive it like you stole it.

I like the stance, maybe a new color, grill insert and wheel change might be the easy way to change it up. Or you could ad some pinstrips to high lite the body lines, in a contrasting color.

I think a stainless or chrome grille insert would do wonders for what you have. I also think chroming the windshield frame would make a big difference. Less 80's on the engine. A trip set up maybe some finned valve covers. Some cool nerf bars on the front. Possibly a chrome axle. That's just me though. Maybe cover the plexigl*** insert with white or black vinyl.

Check the Mustang parts houses. I'm pretty sure you can get a rebuilt Mustang box a lot cheaper than converting to cross steer. It would take a lot of new parts and of course a new steering box.

Mustang boxes got real pricey when the hotrodders and the Mustang restorers were fighting over them. I've seen a few lately pretty reasonably priced with the demand abating. Now the Vega box is pricey.

Pic is how I got it off crglst. Think I've done OK so far. White firewall good. Need to pull motor, think I have a cracked flex plate. Scoop and valve cover change in the works. Had some American Racing wheels and bias tires but car was so light with 0 pounds air the sidewalls wouldn't collapse so the ride wasn't the best but better than my A was. So what I have is an improvement for now. Didn't like the side exhaust so I shortened the headers, capped them off and ran exhaust underneath. After 1 season I got used to the plexi top. When I tried covering it up I felt clostriphobic. Would love to change the grill but 2 problems. 1) $$$ 2) the grill is shortened so I would have to cut up my $$$. Will clean things up for this summer and post pics. Thanks P.S the old guy is the previous owner of 25 or so years.
