After years of searching I FINALLY found a 23-25 steel Model T roadster body for my father. He paid some good money for it but not unreasonable (exept that it still hasn't arrived). The body was sent on the 28th from Washington state and when I punch in the tracking number it shows it arrived and departed the sort facility and such in Portland, OR on the 29th AND THAT IS IT!!! No more information. I called FedEx yesterday and they called and left a message today that they are hoping it arrives in the destination facility today...obiviously they don't know where the **** it is either. Anyone else have this type of **** go on with them. The only thing I had shipped to me before from FedEx was an F1 steering column and it arrived timely and I was able to track it the whole way. Seems like something is fishy here. Mike
Good news bad news. The good news is I've never ever had a problem with them. Someone sent me some pieces awhile back that ended up in Tuscon, but twhen they couldn't deliver them to a KC addy they contacted me and asked if that was me and where for sure did i live. It had the wrong zip. Go figure. The bad news is it sounds like they lost it. I shipped the '23 to Florida by a freight company. It was a pain: had to be palleted and wrapped good. But it got there when they said it would.
I hate fed ex. If you need something next day you best take off work to wait for it. I live in apartments so when I have something coming in, I leave a note on the door for them to leave the package in the office. UPS and USPS don't have problems with this. Fed Ex won't do it though. They tell me I have to be there to sign for it, making the overnight shipping I paid for a worthless waste of money. The fuked up part is when I take 4 hours off work to be there for the ***hole, he doesn't even make me sign anything. This has happened more than once. UPS isn't much better but still better. I got a package from DHL a couple of weeks ago. I left the usual note on my door saying "please leave package in office" He put it under the stairs next to my door and wrote on my note "package under stairs." What a ****. It was $250 worth of truck parts too. Mike
FedEx losing stuff surprises me. I've had major issues with UPS and the USPS both losing stuff. FedEx lost 1 package in 8yrs. UPS and USPS have lost about half a dozen each. My personal experience. I hope some numbnut didn't steal it, cuz that would **** elephant.
Other shipping problem. Got a 52 AJS frame from Aussie. Paid 475 for it shipped. 3 weeks ago I get a call from a freight house in Philly that I need to get an import broker to get it processed through customs and processing fees. This would cost about $600 above what I already paid. I need the frame but I told them to stuff it. I've imported stuff and never had to do that. But the frame still sits in Philly in limbo, and I can't do anything to get it as it exists legally in a grey area. They're still trying to get me to pony the money up. I think it was the service the shipper used to ship that caused all the problems. All in all I say this FedEx does ****, dealt with them before with nothing but problems. And don't buy something from over a large body of water unless you stipulate a definitive method of transport. As such I would stick with UPS (Yeah, I know, but I never had a problem with them) or DHL. USPS is good in the country, though there maybe minor problems, but never anything major.
I told him too!!! I called them again and after talking to a machine like a retard for the 3rd time. I got ahold of someone and proceeded to *** chew them. She said it was misloaded and would arrive at my destination on Friday. I just hope she ain't loaded full of something.
how was the airbill attached to the body? adhesives don't stick well to rusty sheetmetal, so it's possible the a/b came off in transit. don't abandon hope, that's a pretty big piece to lose, and it's likely to turn up in 'over goods'. if it was shipped by fedex freight, they're different from fedex 'express' freight, and i'm not sure how things work over there. keep in contact with 'em...
I have shipped a lot of items via FedEx ground with no problems. I have had problems with their on line tracking service. One time I shipped something from M*** to Calif, and for days all the tracking showed was that the day after I initially shipped it, it left the processing center that is about 15 miles away. It wasn't until the day before it was delivered, that the tracking report acknowledged that the package had been seen at the FedEx processing center near the place it was being shipped to. It arrived at the guys house the next day.
I send big crates all the time with Fedx, They ****, UPS ****s also. If someone could start a shipping company and organize it properly you would be a rich man. More than likely its sitting somewhere where it shouldn't have gone. and until you called nobody gave a ****. Usually when this happens to me, they say it will be at my door in about three days. Then it shows up the very next day and I'm not ready for it Always get your packages insured,, They try alot harder to find it if they know they are going to have to pony up the money
And it was shipped on the 28th, ground? Today's the 5th. Wait a few more days THEN tell us about it. Untill then, you sound like Chicken Little. FWIW, although I abhore USP, they make it easy to ship, receive and track packages. I've found that FedEx, USPS and Greyhound do poor to criminal jobs of tracking their packages, but have better rates and better records of on-time, undamaged delivery. Choose your priorities.
Knock wood, I've never had a problem with FEDEX. I use FEDEX ground insured for everything that I can. Big stuff like fenders goes Greyhound Package Express. International goes US Postal Service. The only problem I've ever had was with shipping a hood from a 54 Cadillac. It went truck freight with Central Transport International of Hayward California. Yes, of course they managed to destroy it. That was the biggest ****-all of all time. Pack it well and leave nothing to chance. Insure.
They all **** equally. FedEx is slightly better. Last issue I had was with UPS. I was in the shop working, the guy walks up to the door, then immediately walks off. It took me a couple secs to get the gloves off, welding helmet off, jump over a couple stretched extension cords, etc. By the time I got to the door dude was down the street. No knock, no nothing, just stuck the note to the door and ran. So I jumped in the truck and hauled *** after the guy. Yeah I caught him! Lazy *** MOFO, the ******* was too lazy to carry the package to the door cause it weighed like 30lbs. So he was going to make me have to come to the distribution center to get it. I chewed his ***, then called and chewed his managers ***. Good luck, hope the thing isn't so big, that they pull the same ****, too lazy to deliver, because it would be a h***le.
You can cut way, way, way down on lost packages with the following four things: 1) make sure ALL old labels and addresses are obliterated completely or removed from the box. This keeps it from being delivered to the wrong address. 2)place clear packaging tape over the label. This keeps it from rubbing off or easily damaged to where it's illegible. 3) place a back-up label INSIDE the box. When the outside labels are gone, the faciility will open them up to check for a back-up label. The above is something the shipper can do, such as yourself. Unfortunately, someone shipping it to you may not care enough to do the above steps. 4) when giving your address to your shipper, if you hand-write it on the envelope or note you send when mailing your payment, make sure it is very legible. I've had many payments come to me with chicken-scratch writing that I can't decipher. If you type in your address via e-mail, etc. Proof-read it before hitting the "send" ****on. I have shipped out probably 700 items now, and have only had ONE get lost that I sent. Guess what I didn't do. A back-up label inside. I could have prevented it, but I got in a hurry or got lazy.
I'm with modernbeat on this, Chill man(for now ) its still on a truck stopping here and there, loading and unloading other packages. Most times tracking won't update till its put on another truck,I have got items that said left sort and never updated till it was at my door.(FedEx Ground)
Yes it did last Wednesday! Waiting for my camera to stop screwing with me to post some pics of it. Pretty damn rough but everythings there. By the way, FedEx called me to verify that I received it, I thought that was pretty cool of them. Same woman I spoke with about the "delay". She was really nice and I apologized for taking up her time. I wish they could figure out a better way to update their package tracking system more efficiently I checked it when I got the package and it still said it was in Oregon! WTF! Oh well at least its home safe and sound. Thanks for the checkup modernbeat. Mike
