I am considering purchasing my first hot rod: 1931 Ford Model A Roadster ***led as a 31 ford. Current plates Wescott Fibergl*** Ford Pinto 4 cyl / Auto trans Ford 8 inch rear / drum brakes Custom ch***is on Model A Frame dropped front axle/disk brakes Paint is a 20 footer interior / top are good / excellent Car is well serviced Drives as expected. What is this car worth?
It's a really nice looking car, the fact that it is fibergl*** and Pinto powered will hurt the resale. I would say that car would sell for around $7,500. Good luck !!!
If you are in love with it and think you'd enjoy driving it, have at it! But if you think it's great a "collector car", think again. Any amount of money you spend on it, like repainting it, will not increase it's value like it would on an original car.
If you have a vision for how you want it to come out, and how you want to use it, go for it. As mentioned above, it isn't inherently valuable, but seems to be a pretty neat little car. There are certainly enough positive elements there to make it a starting point, but think of it as an adventure, not an investment.
Actually, its pretty much meets my needs/expectations. I don't mind the 4cyl. It looks and performs as I want, and I'll enjoy it as a piece of transportation as well as a conversation piece. From my inspection of the car it shows "pride of ownership" by the existing owner so I'm confident I'm not buying a money pit. The goal of my question was simply to make sure I don't overspend.
BigPeter (bragging?)is the webmaster at The Antique Car Club of America. I suspect he knows it is not a collector car or an investment. 58Mustang
My geuss would be around 12 grand. If it makes you happy thats all that matters. To make it more hotroddy it could be lowered and loose the spare tire. If you need a label I would call it a fibregl*** resto rod, but fun does not need a label.
You can get plenty of "hot" out of a 2.3 L ford, There are some trick stuff available due to their use in stock cars and other racing venues.
It would make a great daily driver. No worries about where you leave it, or somebody wiping out your old sheet metal, and should be pretty economical. If its a pretty solid car that you can use, I'd decide its value based on how I was going to use it. You can probably get good reliable transportation in that shape for $3-4k if you look around a little and aren't too picky. But the fun and uniqueness are also of value. I'd probably pay $6k - 8k if I lived in a place that I could uses a roadster for daily transportation. I realize that somebody probably has/had waaaay more than that in it, but that's what I'd pay.
A Shay car will sell from $9000. to $12000 so I think this would sell for more that a Shay. If nobody knew it had Pinto looks like a nice rod.
