Had a chance to talk with Frank Morawski while drooling over his beautiful restoration - great guy - even if he was Army buddies with Rich Venza! Curt, you WILL pay for posting that pic of me (at least it was with the Super Model). Glad she found her Looie Vitune bag... It was a beautiful day for looking at beautiful cars. vic
...even if he was Army buddies with Rich Venza! Say what? Here's a link to a huge selection of photos: http://www.sportscardigest.com/amelia-island-concours-delegance-2011-photo-gallery/
Not in the show on Sunday but I shot this Allard on Saturday. The owner drove it into Amelia Island from neighboring Georgia and had it parked at a beach access while taking a walk on the beach. It was a beautiful day.
The wife and I done our first Concours this past summer in Dayton Ohio, as we were in it with our T-Bucket, I was totaly taken back by the cars and setting around the show, it is not the scale of Amelia Island Concours, but still unbeliveable cars and the people not what I expected, real friendly and loved to talk about their car, just real people loving what they do. I will be going back this year as a spectator.
Frank, here is the sale list. The cars were also listed in a web catalog prior to the show. I couldn't make the auction. Gary http://www.rmauctions.com/AuctionResults.cfm?SaleCode=AM11
I was lucky enough to see that car! I have been a volunteer Class Host for the last 14 years and have seen some great cars. Bill Warner makes the show better every year. I even got to touch his Edsel sports car before he sold it.... Gary “Chopit” Fioto built it and it sold this 55 Ford at a California Auction for $360,000 http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/featuredvehicles/0702rc_1955_ford_bubbletop/index.html I think his shop is down in New Smyrna Beach, FL Cadman MY PICTURES OF THE SHOW ARE AT:
Add me to the list of folks who were there. I took a ton of photos as well: http://www.autotraderclassics.com/a...lArticle.xhtml?articleId=79951&entityId=79951 The Hot Rod Lifestyle seminar was amazing. Hearing those guys talk was a real treat. I snuck down into the parking deck on Saturday to inspect Ivo's car. So cool to get that close to it. Seeing the hot rods in the field was really great. Even more so was the appreciation of the cars by the crowd. That solidified my opinion of the Amelia Concours really being a concours for everyone.
I was there with my good friend Bill Akin, Hermitage, Tn. His 1953 Kurtis KK500B Indy car (Bardahl Special #15) won best in class of the Kurtis Race Cars. This car was restored by Bill in his basement at home and was painted at his home by our red neck friend Jim McPherson. This is very unusual for a concours car and another rare thing is this is a driver! The car has about 100 miles on it at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway..This car has won best in class 2 times at Pebble Beach (2001 and 2010). We had a ball and that's ole 32STUPRES standing by it in this picture..Bill also owns and restored the '59 Bowes Seal Fast laydown Epperly and the '61 Autolite laydown Epperly...Hope to see yall and the Speedway in May and you can watch us drive them....
The yellow Saylor Offy Kurtis roadster midget is owned by my friends, Freddy and Carolyn Johns from northern Indiana. HG
Thanks for all the photos yopu guys posted! Some year we'll get there, Concours shows really are fun to go to, went to my first two last year, they are a lot nicer than i thought they would be. Car people enjoying cars.
i wish i'd known so many hambers would have been there , i would like to have met a few people . i was 'minding ' the 20. grand duesenberg that won best in show for my boss most of the day , but i got to see a lot of the cars in the truck lot on saturday . this is my favorite show , way better than pebble in my opinion , plus i rode home with bruce meyer in the company gulfstream , he has the best stories , and unlike me , his are all true . a great weekend .
Two items on my "Bucket List" are viewing the Nethercutt Collection, and the show at Pebble Beach, guess I need to add Amelia Island as well now.
Thanx, HG, glad to share. If you all want to see more images, which are also correctly identified, try this link. This web update just came in to me this AM. Gary http://www.sportscardigest.com/amel...oto-gallery/?awt_l=GBE8E&awt_m=1eWJ3_DvMus.C0
for me , '34 packard le baron sport phaeton , probably the best looking 4 door ever built , the nethercutts have car no.3 of the 5 originals , i had the great priveledge of restoring it in 2008 , not really a 4 door fan but the 20.grand is special .
I agree on the Lebaron. I was thinking closed cars, but the 20grand would be near the top with open cars included too.
Here's a link to my 5 galleries of pics from Amelia Island. It was my first time there...what an amazing show! Sorry, the galleries are heavily Allard biased, but what can you expect...we are the Allard Register. http://www.allardregister.org/amelia-island-concours-gallery/ Cheers, Colin
Colin, nice pix. The road rally looked like fun, too. What model is this car? Pretty swoopy. For some reason I missed it. Gary
Are any of you coming to the Elagance at Hershey in June? 70 cars in the concourse and another 40 on the hillclimb, all pre War. Thanks to all for the great pics of Amelia.
We were there too. This year's event confirmed the show as a vacation destination for us, car or no car. I do this level of stuff all the time and tend to take the cars for granted. Not there. The diversity of entrants and the courtesy of the Amelia staff is without equal. I see a lot of the same cars in the other pics and didn't want to repeat too many. I'll post the OT stuff from Fri as well because it's not too often you go for a 180+MPH ride with a Daytona 24hr winner. Here's a few including a tip of the hat to my boys n girls of Singlefingerspeedshop. This was our heap for the weekend: It's not often you get close to something like this: Not in the show but how could you not love this: I want one some day: Gave me a chill to see this among the rest: Some dude stole my Singlefinger jacket! Can you believe it? I caught him though: Don's a good sport. I caught up with him at the end of the day for the last 2...end of a long weekend really. I have shots on the other 'puter of the tour on Fri. I'll post those few later. Any true enthusiast needs to attend this event. Hope you like these.
What an amazing show. I had always wanted to attend, and given the opportunity to accompany Frank Morawski with the Carrillo Modified Roadster, I jumped at the chance. For the record, we offered and did start the car several times for the crowd, but as it is a push start-direct drive vehicle, we were allowed to be pulled. The people at Amelia were FANTASTIC. I loved the race car focus. My favorites were the Ab Jenkins Duesenburg, the stealthy 427 Griffith 200sc, the Sorrel fiberglass, tilt-bodied hemi roadster!, the 5 month restoration on a 6,000 original mile 427 Cobra, Allard alley. It was all good.
Sorry... should have checked my post. Here is the photo from one of your albums. An Allard, eh? For some reason I walked right by it. My loss. Sure is a beauty. Gary
Gary, This car #was a one-off special...the body was built by the Murray Body Company. No idea why they did. The front looks very much like a K2...and it was built relatively early as far as K2 production is concerned. It was likely a design study to see how the J2 would look with K2 pontoon fenders (and how it would affect vehicle cost). It is a stunning car. Cheers, Colin
