I couldnt find it in a search so does anyone know if a 51 Chevy car torque tube rear is the same as a 51 truck rear. I know the truck is 6 lug and the car is 5 but are the width and length of the torque tube the same. Thanks
Gears are not interchangeable and you can confirm this from vendors who sell the 3:55 ring/pinion sets.
You can use the rear axle in your truck but it is not a simple bolt in.Look in the tech tips on "The Stovebolt Page" for a how to on this swap.
I have a truck with a three speed and the gears are real steep , the truck dont want to go much over 50. I have a complete setup out of a powerglide car so I just thought maybe they were the same dimensions so I could lust swap them out instead of buying new gears.
Patrick's ge****ts for torque tube cars and trucks are 3:55 ratio and do the job at making it highway friendly. I had the same idea as you but the issue is length. If you truck was a 46 or older that powerglide rear would be useful and here's the tech tip: http://www.stovebolt.com/techtips/torque_tube_swap.htm
