I picked up one those free newspapers the other morning and one article said some board has approved a show and swap out at the old base.

IIRC it'll be every third Sunday starting in June or July.

Anyone hear any more on it?

Vintage auto show gets green light

    By Susan Fuller

    STAFF WRITER

Everyone has a car -- or two or three -- in their memories: Grandpa's Studebaker, the speedy Ferrari on the freeway, the Mustang from a first date, a neighbor's Corvair, Uncle George's full-finned Caddy, the Aston Martin that Sean Connery drove in "Goldfinger."

Automobile dreamers -- with or without the money to fulfill them -- can engage in their fantasies at a new monthly auto show and parts fair at Alameda Point.

"Americans have a love affair with their cars," said show founder Jerry Goldman, who is also a partner in the monthly Alameda Point antique fair. Everyone he talks to about the new show has a tale, he said, about the car they want to sell or the one they dream of owning.

The auto show and fair, which won Alameda Planning Board approval on Monday, will showcase pre-1975 cars and all vintages of limited production, special-interest autos and motorcycles, along with car parts and related merchandise, including pedal cars, old bicycles and clothing.

"It will also be a car show-and-tell, where people can bring their cars out and park them on the field," Goldman said. "Car people like to talk about their cars."

The first auto show will be in June or July and will be held on the third Sunday of every month.

Goldman predicts that the auto show could be bigger than the first-Sunday-of-the-month antique shows, which draw about 800 vendors and up to 10,000 patrons.

Both the car show and antique show are on the runway at Alameda Point, the former Naval Air Station. For information, call 510-522-7500 or go to www.antiquesbybay.com.

I'm not estatic about '75 and earlier but maybe it'll help cut down on the **** that rolls in for the Park Street "show".

I'll try to keep up on this one as well- sounds interesting - I'll post info if I hear any more.

  5. Very cool. Don't see how it will ever rival the size of the Antique swap, but one can only hope. Dang, now TWO Sundays a month are taken! :)

  6. The Antique show is considered to be good by my reliable sources. Quality stuff no junk, knowledgable people in attendence. It costs $100 for a space to sell so expect to spend money. They weed out the **** that way.

It will be interesting to see if that formula works for a car swap. The people who are always *****ing about prices are really going to be full of hate.

    See ya' there

  7. BTT, I think us Nor Cal kids are really lucky that this is starting. We need to support it.

    I'll be there!!

  9. I read on their site that you HAVE to have all your stuff for sale on a table, and if you don't have a table, they will rent one to you.

    WTF??

    Sam.

  10. I e-mailed the guy about this... and he said they just SAY that so the people who run the place stay off their back.

  11. I'll try to get there.

  12. How was it? Too hot for me to go anywhere today.

  13. It was as cool as a cu***ber there in Alameda... a good 15 degrees hotter where I live in Livermore.

The swap meet was kind of a flop... not much there as far as parts go... good facilities, awesome location, plenty of CLEAN rest rooms... food vendors were good and reasonable... but man, the little Hayward swaps at the college bring more sellers...

Don't get me wrong, I wish them the best... and hope it picks up... but they need to work BIG TIME on their marketing... to get the word out and all... Radio, TV... the Computer etc... I'd even hit up car clubs with thier news letters and all... that would get more sellers there... AND, maybe take out an add in one of the major magazines, like Street Rodder or Car Craft... You can at least put out a news release to ALL of them and hope someone says SOMETHING...

    We'll see...
    Sam.
