    THAT just happened.

So now I've got all the pieces in place for the swap. Well, except for a fancy distributor. And I know how hard these are to come by. And expensive to boot. I'll resign myself to live with a fancy cap and the pertronix in my stock distro for now. I've got to get some gaskets and some stainless bolts. I'll be dropping off the exhaust manifolds, water outlet, oill fill tube, pullies and fan with the chromer this week.

In the next week or two, some of us Iron Lords will be pulling the old stovebolt out. I'll fill some holes in the firewall and get the front frame and suspension cleaned. We'll use a mock up 365 to make the engine mounts. We took a quick look last night at shop night and it looks very straight forward. Once everything is good there, single stage white on the firewall and single stage black on the frame and inner fenders.

Once that's accomplished, that pink engine will go straight in and driveshaft adjustments can be made and I'll be driving in Cadillac style!!! Sounds easier than it will be, I'm sure of that. My optimistic estimate is one month from engine pulling to back to driving. But its never that easy for me.

After its in and running with the bugs all worked out, I'll be making the final touches with all the small details. Like new plugs and white plug wires, cloth wiring from the firewall forward and et cetera.

Stoked for you Terd that thing is going to look awesome on top of your 365. You need to ditch those aircleaners and scoop up the 3 frogs mouths that I have. Before you send your manifolds off you're are going to need to get the rust scale off the insides like I've been instructed with my own. I think dipping them in Molasses or Vinegar will work but I wouldn't rule out blasting some sand down there to aid in the process before you dip.

We have a special secret Chrome shop flatfoot that is run by a tweaker that you can pay in cheeseburgers and meth.

FrogMouths!! You can paint the insides with your wife's nail polish.

The Molasses and Vinegar will work, but kind of slow. I've been using Milkstone Remover made by Sterosol, only $12 a gallon and you can add quite a bit of water as well. Usualy works in a few hours, and does not seem to hurt chrome either. It will eat Aluminum so keep that out of the solution. You can buy it at most TSC stores.

Good to meet you guys last night as well.

Local chromer told me NOT to sandblast anything I wanted to have chromed, something about embeding shit in the metal I believe, you might ask your guy.

I want those frog mouths! That's exactly what I had in mind for these carbies. I'm going to go by the farm supply place and get five or ten gallons of molasses and try that. I've heard guys getting good results with that.

Tweaker chrome is the best chrome!

I know you will and that's what makes you awesome! I'll tell ya, I've got two choices. Do it now, right now, try to get done quick to still be able to drive it this spring and summer. Or wait til fall and not be rushed. I'm inclined to do it now. But as you know, I need Jeremy's and Del's help. And both of those guys are neck deep in a swap and a chop. I don't want to hold those guys up either. But I think we can pitch in and get 'em all done at the same time. At least that's what I'm hoping.

Probably JJ's nail polish, haha! But seriously, they're already white inside? That's PERFECT!!! Exactly what I wanted to do!!

Hours is better than weeks! Thanks for the awesome tip. It was good to meet you too! I'll holler in April when my folks get back to Mt. Airy and we come to visit!!! You art and chopper show sound really cool as well! Me and some of the guys were talking about it last night and plan to come up!

Thanks. I wouldn't have thought to ask. I like to leave stuff alone for chroming. I've found the less I do to a part, the less damage I do the chromer has to go back and fix, lol.

Thanks! Its an odd time to be selling just about anything nowadays.

  18. Terd,
Things are lookin' better all the time for the pink caddy!!

Too bad you didn't make it up to Detroit for Autorama. I was looking forward to meeting you and you missed out on some great pizza.

I had a great time with all the Iron lords that did make it up. Catcha next time.

Hey, thanks a ton! I hate I didn't make it to Detroit either. But I knew I'd need that money. And as it turns out, that intake and carbs came up at just the right time and I was able to grab 'em. If I had gone, i wouldn't have been able to afford them. Plus, the day our guys left, I came down with the worst case of flu. I would've been miserable up there in 5* freezing cold sick as hell, hahaha! :D

Time keeps passing....but one more piece of the puzzle has arrived...

I dropped off a bunch of stuff to be chromed last week. It should be ready tomorrow. So far, oil filter, generator, both pullies, three frog mouth scoops, oil fill tube, and the water outlet. I've still got a grip to take to get chromed. Both valve covers, valley cover, intake, fan, and exhaust manifolds. I've gotta pull money out of my ass first though, haha! But I think it will be worth it in the end. I don't want to mix chrome with polished aluminum. I'd rather have it all the same.

Beyond that, here's the list of stuff to do before starting the swap...
    Rebuild the generator.
    Get a few more gaskets.
Get some stainless hardware and polish it (or chrome factory hardware) for all of the above stuff that was or will be chromed.
Bolt all of the above back on the engine.
Soda blast the carbs and figure out the linkage (have linkage, probably chrome that too).
Clean up and polish stock distibutor shaft.

Once that's done, I feel like I'll be ready to actually start the swap. We'll pull the old stovebolt, make engine mounts with Jeremy's 365 mock up engine, clean and paint the front clip and firewall (white for the firewall and black for everything else), and then install the cad mill. Driveshaft will be modified and shortened. Cloth wire will be run to everything under the hood. New fuel lines will be run. And probably a million other things I've forgotten or haven't yet thought of.

Maybe by the horrible and rough weather of winter this new clean engine will actually be in and running, hahaha! :D It feels like forever but it won't be too much longer. More pics of fresh chrome tomorrow or early next week!
