my 2 daughters left this morning for cuba took me back some nice pics last year gettin more this year they said it is full of old cars
Thanks Nads....at least it's a Gm product.... I have never heard of any wrecking yards there....but there must be....I did see a Model A sedan-turned ragtop...as a taxi....yes still in use...but it was going to fast for a picture of it!
Any Willy's freaks out there? a Willy's bus...looks like a production model...note the duel rear wheels... Maybe something build to bring tourists around or something?
Cuban mechanics are resourceful beyond belief. I've been fortunate to become friends with a couple and they are simply amazing. One showed me how to patch a tire with a piece of cut-up tire tube, some gasoline and a styrofoam coffee cup. He used to gas to dissolve the coffee cup and make glue. Then glue the patch into the tire. And it held! Go figure...
I go to Cuba 4 times a year. Working on a 55 this year. Headed back in April. I help 4 families with clothing and baby items. We just finished putting a Lada engine in a 56 Chevy when I was there two weeks ago. The car will be used as a local taxi in Veradero. With the 55 we are putting in a 5 ltr Mercedes. Crazy but I enjoy driving 5 on the tree. If anyone has a chance and is headed to Cuba in the near future....... head out into the country and see some of the old car shops......... Just awesome. I could tell you some great stories but my lips are sealed just in case the big man is watching............. Headed back in April to finish off the 55 Chevy and work on a all Original 64 Olds. This car is one of only 4 known to be in Cuba......... Has been stored over 40 years in a small country garage.......... Still with the Rocket engine......... Can you imagine we are putting in a Lada engine in this............. 99.5% of all the cars are run on Diesel............ If anyone has any Tri-Chevy Belair badging I would like to buy it as all Cubans think that all the 55, 56, 57 Chevys in Cuba are Belairs.......... Its fun to spend time with them all and have a little Havana Club and a few Bucanero's out in the country along with a fine meal at ever house I go to. Also on the hunt for a Lada Carb
