Well, I guess it had to happen. I hit the newsstand today and there was a new magazine - "Rat Rod" Magazine. Apparently there are so many badly built POS's around that "Ol Skool" and "Rebel Rodz" can't cover 'em all. But here's what threw me - "Rat Rod" Magazine has excellent photography, heavy paper, and good production values.

Isn't that a complete contradiction? A nicely done magazine about the worst that rodding has to offer?

Oh, if you're wondering, no, I didn't buy. But I did pick up the new HRD.

You can make a million dollars 2 ways. 1 guy gives you a million dollars, or a million guys give you 1 dollar. I guess Rat Rod mag is riding the wave.

Actually Ol' Skool Rodz shows some very well built (some definitely oddball) hot rods. Now about Rebel Rodz, they pretty much ****.

  11. I've seen some pretty sweet rides in ol' skool rodz. There are a bunch of rat rods too, but they hit the mark every once in a while.

Holy Cow!! As if there werent enough magazines giving top honors to rat rods with big *** teeth grilles, dually semi truck tires, giant smokestacks, 350's with mailboxes for air cleaners, road signs for floors, IFS in the fender-less front, and lets not forget those flat black chopped-shaved-channeled late 60's truck cabs with 32 grilles. Those mags and the people who buy em will fade away in good time.

Holy ****!! They are the world's premiere rat rod publication. I didn't believe it at first but it says so right on their website. That reminds me, I need toilet paper.

******* and s**** both probably do well. Most people only admit to buying one.

Next you'll be watching rat rod tv. I watch it for the comical of it all. They even interviewed Axle on there at the VLV. And now the is a rat rod anti VLV

  18. Like it or not, ratrods are extremely popular and will probably stay around for some time. Hopefully some people will learn to weld properly after their suspension falls off.

A good friend of mine got 2 of his cars in there last summer. Rat crowd would call them that I guess but they are both fine hotrods, one is a 41 Willys pickup with a 392 Hemi that he has been driving for 10 years or better and the other is a 49 Ford business coupe with a 4.6 and T5 and a fatman front end. He is a good wrench and they are both good cars, He just doesn't bother to paint them. I can't say that all of the cars are my style, but they earen't in any magazine. If they would have named it something like Kustom Kulture Deluxe most of us would be all over it.

I think the word here is "trendy", not popular. Just my experience, but those building "rat rods" do it because they saw someone else do it and had to have one too. They didn't do it to be leading edge, or start something new, regardless of what they may say.

They're trying to be unique, just like all their friends.
