Guess we're supposed to introduce ourselves here and say hello? Hello. I've been reading and researching on here for a few weeks now. Ton of great info! I'm newish to the hot rod world. I'm a custom metal fabricator by trade. Nothing special. But I can get down. Reason I'm here is that I was recently commissioned to do some work on a 30 model A pickup rat rod. Is it ok to use the term rat rod still? Either way, I love these things! The best part about them is that I don't believe there are too many rules to follow. Basically, make it work, right? I have a bit of experience in building VW's. Lots of rules there! You take a 52 split and build a baja out of it...you will get an *** kicking in the parking lot at Bug-O-Rama I've got pics of the truck I'm working on now in my album. Here is what I'm looking to learn more about before jumping into this: It has an Olds 455 with a (I believe?) 55 dual range slant pan hydro. May be a 56? They are a numbers matching set from what I was told. The motor has a number cast into the block that starts with 56..? So based on this, here is what I will be doing: It needs the steering set up brake pedal throttle pedal shifter Plus the TV linkage etc. And I may need to move the motor and trans back a few inches. So, I'll need to work out motor mounts and possibly trans mounts, if the motor does need to come back. The drive shaft is a little short, and the front motor mount doesn't line up with the front crossmember.. I wasn't too worried about doing any of the work, until I started reading up on this Hydro.. I thought the TV was a kick down. So I planned on just hooking it up to a lever so he could kick it down whenever he wanted..But now I know that ain't the case. So I'm looking for any help, advise, criticism (constructive) or links to places I can find info on setting this all up. I'm not real familiar with this stuff. But I am a very fast learner. And that's my story.
If you are ever near Lake Havasu drop in, BTW a friend is building something close to your project, Welcome.. IP
Welcome from Gilbert,Az Look for TV linkage info in the tech section. Use the search bar on the right side.
Thanks guys! Glad to be on here. I've been reading and reading on here for weeks now. There are some guys on here that blow my mind with their knowledge! Any of you local AZ guys know of any shows or get-togethers coming up? I want to see some hot rods up close! What about the Scottsdale Pavillion thing I've heard about? When, or Do, they still do that?
