I need to replace a large section of a panel that I cannot access from the rear for clamps (1950 Chevy quarter). How do I fasten my patch in place for **** welding (torch)? I'm thinking overlapping straps and sheet metal screws. Is this the best approach? Thanks.
Maybe something like this might help. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=569265&highlight=welding+clamps
How about a thin piece of sheet metal, about the size of a quarter. Use a hacksaw to cut slots from two sides, leaving a narrow connecting piece right in the middle. Push it in the space between the two pieces you are welding, and rurn it 90 degrees. Remove it after you tack the patch on.
Thanks for asking, fleet-master. Mechanical problems played a trump, and bodywork is on hold. And thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll let you know how it works out. (It may be a while. )
use clecos!! here is an example of how you can span **** joints in a nonaccess point http://www.donshotrodpage.net/Project-57/Page033.html later jim
