I am going to be putting a 8BA in my original 1932 frame can anyone tell me where to weld in my motor mounts say the measurement from the center of the stock cross member to the center of the motor mount. Also I will be welding them flush with the top of the frame rail will the 8ba fit without doing any firewall mods hopefully not a stupid question.Pictures would be great too. Thanks 27
Sorry, I don't have any measurements, but I think you can use stock '32 motor mounts on the 8ba. They still have the mounting bosses on the front of the block. The 8ba is slightly longer than the earlier engines(from the water pumps forward), but I didn't think it was enough to interfere with the radiator. If thats not an option, just install your radiator and firewall and put the engine/trans where you want them.
You should do some searches on here and the ford barn This has been covered heavily recently and I recall doing them flush w the top makes for firewall issues
From my experience with customers you are getting the cart before the horse. Looking for measurements for engine conversions done by other people can lead to many mistakes. Engine location for your particular ride should be done by mocking up all the parts you are using, positioning them in place and then determining the location of the mounting brackets.
It's hard enough to get one in there with a 39 trans. My mounts are slightly lower than the top of the frame. I did not want to cut the firewall. Any higher and the bottom of the firewall would require t*******. I'm pretty sure that you can do what you want without cutting the firewall or the K member but I would never try to do it without the complete ***embly in front of me to jockey for the perfect fit. The tail shaft of the trans will have to go through the hole in the K member. Bolt the firewall and the radiator on the frame and then move it around to find that sweet spot where everything fits.
On my 32 I used the Speedway motor mount bracket and set them just below the top edge of the boxed frame. I like the look better that way. Eventually raised the engine up a bit using spacers on top of the rubber mounts. Initially I just tacked in the mounts but ended up moving them couple times till I was satisfied with the spacing to the firewall and radiator.
