Alright, so I'm goin' up the wall here, and its time to resort to my fellow HAMB'ers for some help.... I've got this '57 Chevy 2 door. Had a good lookin' set of Cragar S/S wheels on it, but to be honest, the rears just did NOT fit good, thanks to it having god knows whatever 10 bolt under it, instead of the stock, or a stock length, rearend. Requiring use of such hillybilly endeavors as air shocks and shackles to make them fit. Not my thing.... So I dipped 'em. Figger'd I'd get myself some Torque Thrust D's or something.... Dillemma: I need a 3.5" backspaced wheel. Either 15x7, or 15x8. And I'm having the god damndest time finding anything like that, in any kind of aluminum wheel outside some newstyle drag racing part, which is definitely not what I had in mind for this car. So, it's either, try to find a cool (yeah, I know, subjective) 15x? wheel in 3.5" to keep a 245 tire on the rear, or step down (grumble....) to a 235 tire in order to run the 3.75" backspaced TTD. Opinions?
wheels can make or break a car. i would consider changing or narrowing the rear end to get the rims you want. i would go with torque thrusts
If it is really only a matter of a quarter inch, consider a spacer. They aren't expensive, and will work fine to increase your clearance by a little bit.
post a picture of the rearend that the car has because it sounds like it's too wide for it. they never had much clearance to begin with.
These ETs are a good looking wheel. They look like the old Torq Thrusts. http://www.team3wheels.com/et/cl***ic5.html
Can't you order Torque Thrusts in custom backspacing? I thought they had a line where you could do that? I know when I bent one of my Boyd's, I had wanted to go wider, so they re-hooped them to 10" and did a custom backspacing for me. It was actually cheaper having two rims done that way than buying one to replace the bent rim.
I believe the last time i checked newstalgia wheels offer custom spacing on the cragar s/s and the torque thrust.... relatively inexpensive. From what i gather here you want a 3.5 BS,and you have 3.75 BS. I would run spacers. And third. I am running a stock wheel well and I am able to run a 28.12.50 M/T ET Street tire. In my link below it shows custom cragar S/S. http://www.newstalgiawheel.com/cragar_wheels.asp
