We are building an old race car based on a Crosley frame, fibergl*** body (built in the 50's) and powered by a V8-60. We were going to use my '39 but decided a '40 would hold up much better (we are bumping the ponies to around 150) with the heavier crank. I have listed my old '39 engine on ebay and are looking for a '40 to replace it with. We really only need the block and crank if anybody has one for sale or trade. Thanks, Grant.
Welcome to the HAMB! I talked to (I think your dad, Bruce) about some V8 60 heads. Your car sounds like it's going to be a blast!
Actually Bruce is my younger brother (you made my day). Ollie was one of our heroes (only person we knew that belonged to the 150mph club way back when. I also got to ride in his olds powered '51 Merc. I have wanted one ever since. Thanks, Grant.
Sorry for the mistake! My Grandfather had alot of nice things to say about your brother Thell (hope I spelled that right). He told me about scuba diver, parties with the gang, etc. He had one funny story about Thell's father in-law's car. I guess they were working on his T-Bird and didn't have it on the lift right and the rear fell of the rack! Ooops! Thanks for the kind words about my Grandfather. He joined the 150 mph club in 1954, that was like going 300 mph today. Wish I had that Merc!
Thells father-in-law had a few car problems. He bought Thells twin sons (age 6 or 7 at the time) new mechanics sets for Christmas. Thought he was being real cute. He parked his new Cadillac out front one day and when he came out several hours later, the two boys were under the car removing every nut and bolt they could get to. Great times!
