Do I sand it? Lots of hard to get to places. Sand blast? I was told Sheet metal is too thin. Acid dip? ouch! I just want to get it to bare metal. Oh and I need a drivers side door trunk lid and firewall.

Thanks. I know it needs bracing but as is it's in three pieces which should make it easy to clean. Once I have cleaned it then I'll brace it and begin the project.:D Maybe you can't see the roof is cut.

I was just told that 31/32 Chevy doors are inter changeable.

  9. Try a DA I know its work and takes a littl time but that's body work. if it was easy everyone would do it.

I would most likely just clean up the areas to be welded first and get it welded back together.

Wood almost gone. I'll be doing steel I just thought it'd be best to clean now before I started work. So I should clean spot and brace then clean the rest? Sorry for my ignorance but DA?

Nice score. A DA is a dual action sander. That 292 should be fun.

Is a dual action sander the same thing as a random orbit?

Make sure if you sandblast the operator knows what he's doing Wrong procedure will kill the metal, have you checked into media blasting? much softer and won't ruin the s/ metal

Ya had someone out and he said the same. Said it'd be better to go with another type of blast but can't find the walnut and others around here. Temecula Vally.

The metal on NEW cars is thin, but you have car that they used metal. I have used a hand blaster called Speedy Blast that would save you a bunch of time. If you are concered about metal thickness, don't aim it directly at your work. IMO

  22. '31 and '32 Chevy doors do not interchange between the years... not without a bunch of work anyways. The hinges are in different spots... 32's only have 2 hinges... 31's have 3 hinges. Also, the front edge of the doors above the beltline are shaped different . You can clearly see the differences in these pics-

Walnut is really aggressive on metal. Soda blasting is the way to go. You go Soda blast right over chrome without tearing up the chrome but it will still strip your metal clean.

i have a guy out here that could blast it will, i take all my cars to him, i do not see anything that would be a concern in the pics that they would warp. soda blasting is good but if you have some nice heavy rust they will have to use something a little more aggresive.

The DA. come both as air driven [the best] or electric. I have a Black&Decker but it doesn't have the power of the air driven ones. On the flat areas you cant beat them.
