I just got the strangest phone call from my dad. He said he talked to Summit Racing Parts and was informed that no one makes a Small Block Chevrolet manifold with a provision for oil filling any more. I find this real hard to believe, personally, and think the guy at Summit was confused. Now maybe Summit no longer carries that type of manifold but can it really be that Edelbrock and Offenhauser have stopped producing their old-style manifolds?
Don't know about Offy, but you can still buy the old style from Edelbrock. At least you can buy one that has a place marked on the bottom to bore a hole for your oil fill. Maybe the Summit guy ment that they don't sell one already set up. You can probably find the part number at the edelbrock site or drop them a note and get the number.
Just to go along with what porknbeaner said, I called Eldebrock once about this and they said there're a flat spot in the front of the intake and you need to drill your own hole. I've seen an Offy manifold in the PAW catalog that still had the hole, but the catalog is a few years old.
I have the one I ordered this summer, so I know they produced them then. I'm just wondering if something has happened very recently. Also, I'm sick of seeing Edelbrock parts everywhere, so whenever I can I use some other part. Of course, if you ground off the logo and painted the intake, who would know, right?
the edelbrock perfromer RPM manifold has a place that you can bore out for the oil fill....the regular perfromer manifold does not
most of the intakes come with a provision you have to cut out, but he was right, no one is making them that are already cut out anymore.
There are a hundred cool used vintage pieces available. E-Bay yourself an old piece for half the price and twice the cool.
yeah , i was gonna mention that too....but i'm looking for one myself , been watching ebay edelbrock made an intake for the SBC in the 60's with an oil fill....model # C4B is a low rise aluminum , dual plane...had one on a 283 about 25 years ago...worked great edelbrock also made some single plane manifolds with the oil fill hole , but i wouldn't recogmend one for the street
Not to be a jerk, but...what's the point? If they sucked and you saw them everywhere, that's one thing. But they work--at least on every engine I've had them on. That saying works in regards to RUBs and whatnot, but come on!
SoCal Speed Shop lists them in their catalog http://www.est1946.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=226 . Polished is $269 Satin is $209.
Oh no denying that they work great, it's just a personal preference/cosmetics thing really, I can't justify it. Maybe it's my way of rebelling. I'm running a small block, so I have to find some small way to be different. Arbitrary, yes, but oh well. What are RUBs?
I am afraid the new performer air gap doesn't have the provision. Here's my problem. I want the script valve covers but I also want the latest in performance. I think I am gonna hafta sacrifice one or the other....
Just got a new Edelbrock 3 x 2 complete set up from Northwest speed and it has the oil fill tube hole factory bored. Much nicer to just have breathers on the valve covers. My 2 cents. Hud
I have an Offy 3x2 that I got three years ago that has the oil-fill pre bored. Unfortunately, tripower is a long-term project for me and I need a single quad. I don't want to cut my Corvette valve covers for breathers. Sounds like I'm going to have to have a manifold machined. Or scour the swap meets. That's cool, though, I like swap meets.
According to the 2005 Edelbrock Catalog, the Performer manifold, the Performer RPM manifold, the Dual-Quad and the Three-Deuce manifolds all have the front oil filler tube boss cast in. They do need to be drilled or machined out.
