hi there so i traded my 55 ford Victoria straight across for a 1936 ford truck im now in the process of wanting disk brake on the front but i dont want a mustang II front end,(plus im on a buget) now ive look around and i see that speedway sales a 37-48 disk brake kit but im not sure if it will fit my truck, also is there any other option that i could go with that anyone know about. thanks .
don't remember for sure where the kit came from, maybe Chassis Eng. but I had 1972 Camaro discs on my 35 pickup-on the original axle/spindles worked great and not $$$$...Dan
Speedway works, also ECI. Thats what I used on my 35 sedan. Just make sure you use wheels that will clear your calipers. danz35 is correct
thanks for the help guys i really appreciated, i don't want to be picky but do you have any more pictures of that set up Larry.thanks.
A freind of mine built his own. He used the speedway weld on brackets for a rear end and modified then to fit. S10 calipers and rotors. He had to machine a spacer for the spindle and got to the bearing store for bearings.
The commercially available disc brake kits are for 1937 to 1948 spindles. I haven't seen a kit for the 36 and older spindles. The picture in the earlier reply of the dic brake install are on 1937-1941 spindles. You would have to change to the later spindles, or fabricate your own setup.
If your car has juice brakes now it likely has had a spindle change to 37-41 round flange or 42-48 square flange Ford spindles. The round flange ones will be marked 78- and the square ones 21A-.
Hey there vicky55 my name is Andy. I read your post and wanted to let you know I have a set of disc brakes I was gonna use for my 36 pickup. I have the complete setup that bolts onto a straight axle. They came on a lowered axle I bought for my pickup. Includes spindles, calipers, rotors, and brake lines. 1 brake pad is missing, was looking to get $225 for the setup.
The smaller rotors usually only come in Chevy and small Ford five lug pattern. If you want to run the large 5 on 5 1/2" pattern wheels you will have to find an oem rotor. If you want to run the 36-39 wide 5 wheels you are sol.
There is or was a Ford pattern 5 1/2" kit...I think both P7J and Speedway. Do not know if it still exists or if it was based on some stock (Ford pickup??) disk. Anyone current on that??
I have the Speedway kit on my 41 pickup. It uses the mid '70s F100-150 rotor and Full size mid 70s Chevy car calipers. You can download the kit manual from the Speedway site for the specifics. I am running the disks with the stock rears through a 70 C20 master cylinder. Very pleased with the brake performance.
Magnum Axel also has a good kit for this,....I believe you can get it from Speedway. Mine came from Sacramento Vintage Ford. 4TTRUK
