64 impala power steering

Ive rebuilt the cylinder and control valve and replaced all the hoses on the power steering on my 64 impala wagon. now it works great other than if you let go of the wheel it turns to the right by itself! does anyone know whats going on?

 

is it turning right, or is it pulling to the right? could be a gearbox issue or an alignment issue, depending on what its doing.

 

Have your front end aligned!

 

not pulling to the right its turning to the right! it will do it sitting still!

 

I would say the power piston valve is not centering it's self, maybe bleed it?

 

Controll valve. Could be a stuck spool, or a dirty or improperly installed check valve.
Take it back apart and look at the ***y manual closely. Been a long time but I remember that they are easy to get wrong.

 

power steering is finicky huh? We put the hoses to the control valve on backwards and the wheel took over turning left and right like the car was posessed haha. Buddy told me that would happen, but it was the first time I have ever seen it lol

 

Look for a chevy manual. There is a procedure to go thru to make the adjustment.
