I am going to be pulling my motor out of my 48 F1 and i want to put in some fresh paint while i can.

I'm not looking for glossy anything but just want a nice clean look and i was wondering what's the best paint to use that will hold up inside with that heat and other elements but not cost $100 a pint.

The friend helping me has spray guns so if there is a paint that will work best but needs to be sprayed with a gun we can do that. Or do i just use spray paint?

Spray can is the cheapest,Id use rustoleum And at least buy a gallon of thinner to clean his gun. Real laquer thinner .Not the home depot stuff. Look at the rustoleum can it will tell you what to thin with. One quart should be enough to paint fire wall and whole underneath car. That's how I use to do them .driver's that is . If your looking for show. You'll have to spend a fortune.

I use the tractor supply stuff on my engine bay and have been very happy with the results. Use their hardener too. Pictures are in my blog.

any acrylic urethane enamel with a hardner should hold up well, and shiny = easy to keep clean!

I used Duplicolor Splatter paint. (Kinda like Zolatone) from the rattle can. It took 2 cans to do the firewall. 2 years old now and holding up fine.[IMG]

  10. Dupli-Color has a ceramic coat engine paint that is a 500 degree paint. Its available in gloss or satin. I've used it alot for different things and it's great paint, about $5.00 a can. 2 or 3 cans should do ya. O'Rielly Auto Parts has it.

Hammersmiths spray paint in a can is very cool as the hammer tone hides imperfections I have been using it on frames for years and it works good

I just finished an engine bay. I used the SEM trim black spray bombs. I was amazed with the quality and finish. It has a 3-5min. flash time. Just the right sheen, in my opinion.

    have a look...[IMG]

On my F1, the firewall and inner fenders are body color single stage urethane with hardener because it cleans up easy. Local paint shop says any auto paint is good to about 250 degrees so engine compartments are ok. The inside of the hood, which is alittle rough is rustoleum hammertone sprayed over white sealer. The texture hides the lack of body work on the inside. I've used hammertone on several parts, engine brackets, bumpers etc and it has a cl***y look, much better than plain spray paint.

I've used Rustoleum semi gloss or satin black in a spray gun with acetone to thin and make it harder. Or if you're spraying rattlecan I like Hammerite paint. Very tough, and hides little scratches or chips easily in the future.

I've used Eastwoods Underhood black on a couple misc. pieces to see how it looked. It is SUPER THIN and doesn't cover a thing.

Just did the engine bay in my Shoebox. Went to the local paint place and asked them what to use. Used some black satin trim paint made by Mar-Hyde. Sanded everything down as best I could and the shot some Nason primer on it that I had left over from another project. Here's a pic. of the can and the engine bay...

Keep in mind that spray can and non activated paint will not stand up to spilled brake fluid or galoline.

  22. I've used the Mar-Hyde trim paint a couple times on inner fenders,etc-semi gloss black, dump it in the gun and shoot-flashes off quick-nice clean finish. Cheap Too;)

I used Eastwood's Ch***is Black. It sprayed easily, no hardener to worry about, and has been very durable.

No rattle cans,I recommend a good acryilic enamel with hardner. There is an auction site that has some reasonably priced materials .I just shot some and it looks good.To save money, use the same paint as you would if you are going to paint the whole truck. My avatar is going to be Sunshine Yellow.

  26. Ditto!!! This stuff in a Semi Flat looks factory and will live forever under the hood. I'm still winning awards with my car after a ton of miles and it still looks new after 10 years or there abouts.
It also hides stuff and has great coverage.
