  1. Progress looks great.

I've got my plans for my floating grille, but I'm not going to decide until I've driven the car some and lived with it.

Sounds like a good plan. I read your grille thread in an attempt to get more ideas. Most likely won't do the DeSoto teeth grille.

Here is the latest pix of the ch***is. Just waiting for the SBF to be rebuilt and then I will install the motor/trans. Plumb up the fuel lines and then install the 51 body.

Looking good. If you use the original foot pedal and a new booster, will you be able to run the exhaust through the frame holes? I am currently at this point in a 51 merc build -350, 700r4, 9 inch- and wondering which brakes to use. Firewall chevy or the nicer original style. Current exhaust runs through the frame.

Yes, I am using the original brake pedal and the stock location for the booster. The original location for the exhaust system was thru the p***enger side. To tun a dual exhaust the driver's side "X" must be cut.

Since I am using a dual master cylinder with power booster, their is no room to run exhaust on the driver's side. My plan is to use oval shaped exhaust, but only a single using the p***enger side like the original exhaust system.

hey joe, we originally planned to run the exhaust to swing under the frame behind the A-arms and run it down each "tunnel" on either side by the rocker panels, then you don't have to worry about dodging anything.

John: UnionVilleHaunt (Chris) is doing the chop and all the bodywork. He will also put the body in primer. Could not find a soul in the Savannah area to touch this project. I am very pleased with his work.

The 51 should be down here in April. I will then install the body on the custom ch***is (built by Slddnmatt).

Chris is also going to do my 50 Merc. That will go up North on the return trip (51 delivery).

Matt, my thoughts are well. Just challenged by how to exit the body from underneath that area without cutting a hole in the body. Thinking about oval shaped exahust pipe to make the exit. Any ideas?

Matt, did you mock up the SBF with any special headers using that exhaust routing method? I was just thinking about a set of shorty, block hugger type headers.

one of the other cars that i have at the shop just had some block hugger shory headers that are all over ebay that i used for a looksy, and then planned to run them towards the back putting a flange right before the rearend to be able drop the rearend if you need to, and the exhaust would dump out at a slight angle behind the rear tire. the exhaust would be hidden.

  18. I think thats a great idea Matt

I will post pix when the exhaust is mocked up. Maybe a photoshop exercise on a ch***is side view pix to illustrate the exhaust system routing before the mockup will work also? I will have to see what I can do with photoshop. Either way, I will post some pix.
