As some of you may know the engine in Walter went kaput. It needs a full on rebuild which is a little pricy, even if I assemble it myself. So I stumbled across an ad for this 390 for a very, VERY good price and the guy says it's rebuilt and run on a stand but uninstalled. He's kinda short on the phone, I ask if there's any reciepts and he says "sure, come check it out!" I'm skeptical but decide to go ahead and make the trip up to Tulsa and check it out. I get to his house and he has it on this neat little cradle and ready to go..with a fresh trans and rebuilt carb. What's the catch? None. I pulled a couple random plugs and see clean pistons with .030 stamped on the top. I yank the covers and discover shiny, clean, beautiful new springs and shafts and pushrods and everything! He even apologized to me that it was dusty from sitting in the corner for a year.. He built it for a car that he was gonna build but ended up selling. Anyway Check it: Here's what it's replacing: He says it's a '60. It doesn't have the same oil filter bracket thingy my '62 has, it has this fitting, but it's capped. Is this supposed to have a remote canister? Is it supposed to go without it? (I busted the dipstick tube putting it in the trailer, doh!) Oh yeah...only in Texas
Looks like a really sweet set up . it does look like it had work done on it plus its clean and painted very nicely . So what did you steal it for ? Retro Jim
yeah, that sucks, went all the way to ok and thats all ya got..........wish we all had it so bad..........nice motor....will look good in that nice car.....
DB... you better stay outta OK!!! and my backyard!!! Did you come up 69 or 75? Crap you could've swung by the shop for a beer!!
Ha! I came up the 75. Damn dude I woulda stopped by...I was all nervous the whole time worried about it being a joke deal while listening to Slayer and Dillinger at full volume in the truck. My stepfather was horrified..
I don't understand the question? It was rebuilt a little over a year ago and stuffed in a corner. Let's just say I got a GRAND deal on it I'm gonna paint it white.
If it does not have a oil filter on the passenger side of the block, its pre 60. The first 2 numbers under the dipstick that are stamped in the block tell you what year . The plug in your pic goes into the water jacket. Looks like '59' is stamped there. nice find!
seems like it went to the right person. Good score thats for sure. Its nice to know that sometimes the goose chase's do turn out to be worth while. the thrill of the hunt.
Oh well, wasted trip. Except for the bonding experience with your father in law who went out and bought every album Slayer and Dillinger ever made. Congrats on the sweet mill. ~sololobo~
