Hey guys, I spent the winter finishing the interior of my polebuilding and now it's time to get to work on my '49 chevy. I'm putting a 261 in it ( timing gear broke on original 216) and swaping in a '51 powerglide rear axle in it. I need to know if the parking cables are the same from '49 to a '51 ? And are the axles the same or do they go on the s**** pile with the old rearend...? I thought I'd throw some pics on of a project that fell through. The 59 caddy didn't look to bad when it was brought to me in fall but after getting up on jackstands and removing the interior it turns out the floor needs mega work and the owner did not want to procede...Paul
Caddy went back to the owners home and he said he would maybe part it out,,,He has quite a few cars and this one could sit awhile..
When they changed the bakes in '51, they also changed the center hole size of the drums, which means the axles are NOT interchangable. '49-50 are different than '51-54. As for the E-brake cables, look it up in a parts catalog....
Thanks Snarl ,I should have just asked you in the first place...I know as I go along on this swap I'm sure I'll have more questions.I know I'll get her back on the road by Symco again but I hope to make some of the earlier spring shows..PAUL
