    Ditto - Thanks Guys.

    If I didn't enjoy the website, I wouldn't Moderate.

It's the 2% like I mentioned that takes the time to educate.

My brotha Metal Shapes jumped into the Nascar / Modifieds post that I should have done a long time ago. That post really got big guys, and going back and deleting Pinto's and Gremlins and 70's and 80's stuff would take hours-hours to Moderate to delete post by post.

It got away from us... plain and simple and Shapes jumped in.

There's no Place like HAMB Hot Rods and Customs :)

Sorry Brotha, I didn't help ya on this one but future will watch it closer.

    I understand you are dissapointed...

But the HAMB already is a resource for the history of Trad Hot Rods & Trad Customs.

If we try to make it everything to everybody we will loose some off that.

Hopefully, it can still become a resource for the history of Stock Cars up to the mid '60s...

yet you posted on that thread, as well as felt the need to post negatively on this thread twice. this thread was started to see if the stock car thread could be brought back, and kept within the parameters of the HAMB.

some have explained there concerns and wishes in a positive manner, and metalshapes has explained the reasoning behind the closure, it looks like it has been reopened and we hope that it can stay on track, if you cant post some thing positive to help the situation , then please dont post.

    thank you,

    Fred

At risk of getting tossed out of this forum on my arse, I have to say something about the way this situation was handled. Speaking from a Moderators position, it's sometimes necessary to rule the board with an iron fist in order to keep control of bad situations, or situations that are destined to get out of control if a thread is allowed to continue without intervention. I didn't see where that was necessary here.

My experience comes from being Lead Moderator on Dirt Track Digest, and it tells me that I need to be open minded first, and reactive second. Sometimes, all it takes is a friendly reminder to get a topic back under control. There are other times when stern warnings must be issued because of a defiant or repetitive offender. I didn't see where either scenario was warranted. And more importantly, the thread certainly didn't necessitate being shut down to regain control.

This is my issue... if the originator of this thread (John56H) isn't complaining about '80s and '90s pictures being posted in his thread, who cares? Every time the clock strikes midnight, pictures become older. Every time a track closes, the racing that used to be becomes history. Every time a driver passes away, he becomes history. I just don't get the need for a cut and dry cutoff date.

Here in New York State, a car must be 25 years old to achieve antique status with DOT. If we applied that rule to this forum, every new year you'd have to allow another year of photos and discussion. It's much easier to moderate 1 topic than it is to moderate 2, so it baffles me why a moderator would suggest extra work for himself.

If the decision to put the clamp on this thread came from a couple of complaints, I've got a beef with that too. Owners of photographs that were posted on other websites and didn't give permission to be posted here were ignored, and we listened to a couple of members? Shouldn't John56H have the final say since it's his thread to begin with?

One more thing... the comment to "kt" saying "if you were a racer..." I don't know him personally - we've never met. But I do know who he is, and he's probably got more laps under his belt than any 3 of us combined. He is absolutely right in feeling offended for being talked down to. metalshapes, you should apologize. That was uncalled for.

Its my experience that somebody who boasts about being a moderator on an other board is usually the farthest off base when they start handing out advise.
( thats why I try to not let on that I'm one here when I'm on somebody else's board. )

Also, you quoted me wrong regarding what I said to KT.

I said "If you truely are".

Meaning he could be one or not, but more than likely he would be.

He seems to be over it, so maybe he is also a bigger man than any 3 of us combined...

Excellent & perceptive post, both as it applies to the mods and to the participants on the stock car thread.

Being one of those posters on the historic stock car thread that Gene was referring to - originally directed to the thread by a link on Google and then taking over two weeks to read through all the great historic stuff before signing up and thinking I was "on-topic" because what I was about to post was similar to over a year's worth of postings already on the site - I have a suggestion.... a friendly reminder notice every 4 or 5 pages, perhaps "boxed" and highlighted with the preferred era for pictures and any other important rules/limits. It wouldn't even have to have any particular mod's signature/avitar on it so no arguments or hard feelings. You can see that that particular thread is attracting a few new members almost weekly and, if they are like I was, probably think that it is an open stock car thread where anything with 4 wheels and fenders on an oval track is on-topic.

Don't know if it is possible (not a "techie") but since you guys control both sites, maybe the entire Historic stock car picture thread could be transferred to "Dogfight"? That should take care of the "growth" problem. I don't know how many searching for stock car pictures on Google or other search engines would think to input "Dogfight", however.

    Truth ?

"Traditional Hot Rods and Customs " theme is a time from the 20's through the early to mid 60's of the enginuity of guys who built hot rods and customs for the MOSTLY STREET and STRIP with not much more than a couple of wrenches, a tree , and some what ever you can scrape up paint.

It kept evolving and some truely talented men made it what it is, a vision and theme and time of innocense and a way of life.

That's the spirit that I think most people capture here except those who only look to hock their stuff which is being monitored closely.

Vintage Stock cars is what I consider a gray area because it is another world on it's own, and if you don't believe me - just look at some of the posts of guys who googled it and it took it to here. Do I appreciate it ? yes, but truth be known - it isn't our final decision, it's Ryan's Cochran's decision and he has trusted us Moderators to make decisions to keep that "Traditional Hot Rods and Customs" theme going to enjoy.

Now - while some of you won't agree and frankly too bad - you are not going to agree......

"Pinto's and Gremlins" are not Traditional Hot Rods or Customs for the era that this web site was created for.

My Buddy Metalshapes has more than a bunch of times bent over backwards to suggest people keep topics - ON TOPIC. If guys seems to be drifting off - we delete or close a post.

Does it affect others ? Yes - unfortunate but for those affected, my suggestions is that YOU report a post that you know doesn't fit the theme of this website.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and my suggestion is that any guy that has 25 posts or less - just sit back for a bit and observe and see what this website really is about BEFORE making posts on how it is run.
Suggest is my advise........ posting a opinion on how something is done by a Moderator - I would rather you private message me if you don't agree because when you post it, frankly it does NOTHING except stir up shit and makes it all ok for a whole bunch of opinions to come flowing out and then 99% of the time it turns to drama and then we give infractions and then feelings are hurt and then the whole tire goes around one more time.

I'll tell you what - I'll help clean up that post by deleting newer than early 60's Vintage Racers but it will take some time - ( hours) if that will help.

I am supporting Metalshapes for something that as Moderators sometimes we do that doesn't make some people happy. We don't intentionally do it, it just happens because there are 130,000 plus opinions.

If Ryan decides the post stays closed - so be it, but if it stays open, I will help clean things up but UNDERSTAND THIS. MODERATORS DONATE THEIR TIME, so be patient and if that isn't good enough than maybe you should go out in the garage and work on your ride.

My buddy Metalshapes donates a LOT of time and if you guys don't appreciate it, then send me a private message to chat about it.

    Thanks and enjoy the HAMB.
