just as the ***le says. picked up the xs bobber project last thursday and should start stripping it down tommorrow or this weekend. nice 6300 miles '81 xs650 special with some extras that should bring some money to do what i want. the down side is it has mags and i want spokes. the good side is it's drum rear mag instead of disk which from my understanding would mean a swingarm change. anyhow anybody know of a set of spokes for a xs?. i'd post a pic but they are all huge and i tried the only way i know to resize them and they're still to big...ken....
Earlier xs650s came with spoke wheels some had cool double spokes like the ones im putting on my fiances ride. I'm fairly sure you can just switch em out. Heres my buddies XS we're working on. I know I keep showing it but its the first real fabrication I've done and I'm pretty proud with how it came out. Email me you pics and I'll post em. mrenegar@gmail.com Primo
yep the one like pictured up top. i've check the cycle slavage places here and found nothing but mags so far. the search continues. and yes i check ebay all the time. missed a set because i wasn't sure ifthe deal was gonna happen on the bike or not. i guess i shoulda just got them...ken....
They show up all the time on ebay. I've bought em as cheap as 30 for a pair. Shipping isn't too bad. I don't have any extra right now, but I'll keep looking around here for ya. As far as swingarms are concerned, they are basically the same, with different tabs for brake anchor etc. I do have a set of spoke wheels with the aluminum rims....18 rear and 19 front, if you like that look, but the 16 steel rear looks much nicer. still lookin'. the need just got upped as someone has spoken for the mags now(well atleast the drum rear). if all else fails the guy that wants it said he can lace up a cb450 hub to a harley drop center rim for me for a decent price. still prefer the double spoke 650 wheel. maybe someone missed this the first round...ken...
I can get you a set of the non double spoke wheels from a jap bike salvage yard here in Colorado. The guy charges about 30-45 bucks a wheel, plus I would need the shipping to get em to ya. Don't know if its worth it or not for ya but if it is tell me and I'll take my camera and show ya what hes got. Primo
thanks primo. i just got an email froma guy that says he has a nice rear wheel, but didn't mention if it was double spoke or not or a price so i'm a little affraid. i sent him a return email. but yes i'll keep you in mind. i've got my fingers crossed, but who knows. i almost convinced myself to let mojo down in sc hardtail it now but i'd rather enjoy it this summer than have to tear it down and put it back together. if it wasn't for the down time involved i'd probably go ahead and do it. thanks for all your responses and i seem to be have computer probs and the pics i was gonna email you are in never never land. if i get everything sorted out i'll send 'em since i'm a computer idiot and have vvveeerrryyyy limited skills at resizing...ken....
