'58 Pearl Beer Delivery Sub - So. Texas Brush Country Find

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by TexasDeuce, Mar 20, 2011.

  1. Who peed in his Wheaties?

  2. Coe had nice wives. :D:D
I don't remember what album that was on where he mad the reference to pearl it was a song about his daddy. I wish I still had the album. It also made reference to how the old man made a living, old junk cars.

I'm taking a break on it for a day or two, no one pays any attention anyway. You carry the ball a bit. When ya fumble I'll pick it back up. ;)

Easiest album to find it on is COE FOR THE RECORD - first ten years.

"if that ain't country" recorded 1977
    Track # 5
CD # 34 in my Jukebox, had to reach all of 18" for that answer.
BTW that was DAC's milder stuff there.

Dig the old Pearl and Lonestar stuff, been collecting for years, and I dig longroofs so I am double in on this project.

  9. I think he wants you to build another 32 ford. A brand new brookville body would be more traditional. I love the burb.

I dig it. As Crease said, the folks at the Pearl/Pabst Brewery in SA would probably get a kick out of it. Restore it, don't try to customize it.

    Great stuff! Texas Tornados also.

As for the '58 Pearl Sub, and whether it belongs here...
While out digging for tin, and accidentally finding a vein of platinum, a good guy will share the story of his luck. It's nothing more than that, IMO...just a cool find that needed to be shared.

There was a humongous thread about the unearthing of the OKC '57 Plymouth. Talk about digging up tin and rust! But I'll admit, it was interesting in its own perverse way.

  12. When ya gotta have it.....there`s nothing anyone can say to change yer mind, there are rougher projects on the Hamb, good score....a little wash and some paint, she be good to go!!!!

  13. Good score! I want one too!
Yeah, we all knocked back a few Pearls even here in Okie Land. And as my imagination runs wild at the thought of it, I wonder if there could be a still hidden Progress beer truck out there. Progress was an institution around here for years (founded in 1935) - from the Progress brewery just west of downtown Oklahoma City. Progress beer is, sadly, just a faded memory.....

There was a Pearl/Country Club brewery in St.Joe,Mo. that my girlfriend, now wife, worked at while I was in the Army (68-70). The few times I was able to come home on leave I would go meet her at work and wait for her in the tap room. The beer was on tap, and free, so I would sit there for hours. As I remember it, it was pretty bad, but after the first couple you didn't care, and it was FREE.

The brewery has not been a brewery for several years; it's now a -- I don't know what you call it. A tourist destination: several restaurants, condos, offices, a cooking school -- a stop on the SA River taxi route. It is beautiful. Somebody around there would likely want your truck, if you don't.

Could be a nice shop truck, lowered, push bar, vintage 1/4 midget in the back, save em from the crusher!

Unless your going to do ALL of the work yourself and get a hell of a deal on everything you need to do the job this little "restoration" will run over $30,000 in matériel and components alone. Your time worth anything? Lets get real here and look for a solid example and get the artwork duplicated, rebuild the drivetrain and get on with our life. If this wreck ever sees the light of day looking like it did when first lettered, give me a call.................I'm in for the first tank of gas.........even if it goes to $5.00/Gal. Sometimes I wonder if some of you guys ever sober up 'cause some of these threads don't exhibit the intelligence God gave a turnip.

I guess it's kind of cool. I agree with the sentiment that it's not going to make a very good traditional hot rod/custom, but I don't really have a problem with restorations.

Turning it into a mobile tattoo studio doesn't really blow my skirt up, but to each his own I reckon.

    Does it belong here? Eh.

  19. Thank you Frank. I knew you were a reasonable man. There are some people on this board that are here for the right reasons. This isn't just an everbody loves old cars site where anything automotive is ok and lets feel good and touchy feely about the latest wreck that just got pulled out of the bush. I'm in for the second tank of gas and that sixer of Pearl .Reality needs to come into play sometimes. As for the comments earlier about me. Please. Anybody that truly knows me, knows I'm in this shit because I'm passionate about hotrods and not much else. I have no ego about myself and know my limits and freely admit them. I stand by my earlier comments.

After high school graduation I drove a tractor trailer rig. I would pick up at the Pearl Brewery in San Antonio....beer that was called Lucky Loger beer and I hauled it to Californina....the brewery back in those days would supply all of the cold beer you could drink while you waited on your truck to get loaded. I saw many truck drivers get so fucked up they couldn't hit their ass with both hands. It was Ok back then....I can't imagine that happening today...

Curb---Fab, what do you guys think is the "right" reason to be on this Forum? What is wrong with wanting to build something you find and you really like? Who gives a shit about where it comes from or how much it is going to cost to build it....it is not like they are asking you for the money to build their ride.

It is pricks like you guys that makes this hobby a pain in the ass. Yes, there is a thing called freedom of speech; but if you guys don't have anything positive to say then shut the fuck up and go to a "gold chainer" streetrodder, billet lover forum.

I thought it was a cool find and the guy who found it likes it; what does it matter if it ever makes it on the road and much less if it has crotchspeed's or fag32's approval. If you guys question other's intelligence or passion for a build then look at your own negative source of feedback....that is totally opposite of what this forum is about.

Remember this? THE HAMB -- "This forum is dedicated to spreading the gospel of traditional hot rods and customs to hoodlums worldwide.".....NOT about how much it costs or where it came from....

We come to this forum to see what others are building and perhaps learn from their ideas, or even offer some advice on how to go about a certain aspect of a build....but com on gentlemen why knock some one down or jump in a thread and try to sabotage by bursting someones bubble.

If you don't agree move on...

  24. Non-car people just don't understand these things. As evidenced by the previous comments. A few 1-800 catalogs and some tupperware doesn't make someone a car guy any more than standing in their garage makes them a car.

And some people actually have real cars, but just hang out to see what shit they can stir up.

As for the truck, that's a neat find, usually old delivery trucks got run into the ground and sold or junked. Being a Suburban instead of say a panel, is kind of odd, it might be worth researching to see just what they originally used it for. It's from Texas, so how bad can it be? It doesn't look that terrible, despite the well worn paint that's fooling some of these sissies. Being it's a Chevy and not that hard to find parts for I wouldn't be surprised if you could be driving it down the road for a couple grand, outside of any unique to that bodystyle glass.

Customs or restorations are just what it says and I never ever saw any rules about what or where was the "Right one" A new friend we met last year at the LSRU has a sub and it's one cool looking ride. We actually left our area and all drove to Austin for the event and this sub stuck out like a sore thumb because there rare--good for a big family (which he has) and has all the nice wanted extras. Beauty will always be in the eye of the beholder! I have no doubts that if this old Pearl truck gets the treatment it to will be a stand out amoung the Traditionals. I have traditionals-not so traditional and have a love for all of them and I say good luck to the finder in his restoration.

    Dog, Rusty, Ray,

Thanks for the motivation. I'll share with my nephew.

I guess I let these guys get to me. I shouldn't let it get to that....It's about the rides not the negativity.

Other than the rear gate and the lack of glass that truck is not that bad.

Love how if you talk about parting out and crushing a 4 door half the people on the HAMB starts crying and tells you that you must hate old cars. Then if you try to save something that is really cool the other half of the people on the HAMB flip out and tell you it is not worth it.

I guess you just cant win
