Guys Ive wired my coupe with an EZ wiring kit. So far so good, everything works apart from a dud hydraulic brake pressure switch. In the kit the came a heavy red wire with the info that if the ALT was puttin out more than 80 Amps, to hook it to the Alt and run it to the starter solenoid. The problem is that in the EZ kit, there is a wire that goes from the fuse panel and runs to the Alternaotr. Should this wire be left there when I add the extra heavy red cable or should it be REPLACED by the heavy red cable?? Im thinking the beefy red one for my 120 Amp alt should REPLACE the one that comes as STD from the box. The **** instructions dont say if the two should be run together or if one shou REPLACE the other. Im gettin close to firing my ride for the first time but dont wanna fry anything. Anyone?? Rat
IIRC, I ran mine in addition to the one from the fuse block. There are at least 2 wires going to the main stud on my alt., so... I'll run out to the parking lot at lunchtime and check for you. I have a 96 amp alternator, and I have had no problems with however I did run it.
If you are running an alt. over 80 amps you add this wire to what is already there not replace. It is added because there is not enough power in the white exciter wire to kick the alt. so you add this wire to get the extra power needed hope this helps.
why spend 200 bucks on a wiring kit when you can spend the same ammount at your local hardware store to wire up 3 cars 14 gauge wire(50' spools)- red, black, green, yellow, and orange = $80 mics ****, male/female, and eye connectors = $30 and marine new style 6 curcit fuse block = $30 i got 2 other fuse blocks and i wired up a 68 pontiac tempest, a 47 pontiac torpedo and a 65 falcon sorry guys i went high dollar and even have TURN SIGNALS!
Thanx for the info guys !! Hey ztorp...I bought a kit coz I got it real cheeeep !! And my rewiring expertise is almost NON existant. First time I rewired a car....next time, i m might go the way you did. Rat
http://lsd.skyphix.com/Wiring1.jpg its that easy bud! i did my first without even knowing how to crimp a connector!
I am in the middle of an " EZ " kit and your right the instructions arent that great , once i quit looking in the book and just did it , it seemed to turn out ok , i only have column to finish and ill be done.
Thanks Torpedo for the diagram, been looking for that. BTW, I have had no problems with the EZwire kit in my 37 Ford for 4 years so far, but I want to wire the roadster up from scratch, since i'll only need a few circuits and dont want to deal with a bunch of extra wires.
I used the EZ kit 4 years ago and have had no problems. There tech advise was great. All I did was call them and they were more than happy to answer my questions. I think I talked with Bob the owner.
I think my ez kit was 130 bucks, easy to install, my first, and everything worked right the first time !!!! Tech support was also very friendly and knowledgable. Thats probably the most common question they get....Fido
