Hello to all, I purchased rare 65 Nova SS several years ago from the Bismarck, ND area and have been successful in researching it's history back to 1971. Unfortunatly the gentleman who bought it in 1971 can't remember who he bought it from, but he does recall that the previous owner used to race the car at Interstate Dragway (or Raceway) back in the late 60's. Would anyone out there recall an evening orchid (light purple) 65 Nova SS, 327, 300 hp/ 4 spd., 12 bolt rear car running the 1/4 mile back then? If so.., can anyone recall the owners name? or, suggest an avenue in my persuit? Thanks all, Steve G.
http://thedragraceplace.com/ Interstate Dragways has a new owner and new name but they do have a forum. Might help to ask there.
http://www.topenddragways.com/ is the new owners page. He's a younger guy and probably wouldn't know about it but may be able to point you to someone who does.
Do you have any pics of the car now? I do believe you bought that car from my brother a few years ago, it was a fun car!
Yes there will be august 6th and 7th I will get you a link to the site when I get home writing this on my phone.
I made a call to a guy who ran a `66 Chevy II in the mid seventies, he did not remember the car. Then NateS dad called and said he thinks you have his sons old car which I saw many times. It was a street car at that time not and all out race car which I'm sure is what it was back in the day, which will make it hard for most people to remember.
Thanks to all for your suggestions and help. I will check out those forums. Yes Nate.., I did buy it from Andy. He was a great guy to do business with! And he was correct in saying that I wouldn't be dissapointed! At this point I have over $30,000 into the car and it still has the crappy burgundy paint on it. Rotisserie restoration back to it's original color is about 2 years away at this point. And if anyone out there can come up with a positive lead in my search, it will be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Steve G. Easthampton, Ma.
How the hell could you have $30k tied up into a Nova and not be done? Seriously?...if you're 30 g's into a car that still needs to be restored, that had damned well better be an amazingly rare car...
http://www.facebook.com/hotroddrags There's the page to follow along as things are updated. Hope to see you there Jim, may not remember me but I met you at my first (and so far only) time at 50s a couple years ago. I know last year we had a bunch of people from the cities come up and by the sounds of it they are bringing a lot more people with them this year.
I had a guy come by my house a few years ago that I had bought a basket case car from. It came to me in pieces on a trailer and two truck loads of parts. I opened my wallet and worked my ass off on it for 12 months solid and turned it into a pretty cool ride. He wanted to see it finished but you could read the envy on his face. He would probably have been better off never coming by and seeing what I turned it into. Unless it's significant, don't get too hung up on a cars ownership history. I guess I kind of understand a certain curiosity with your car's history but to me my car is now mine. Looking up any previous owner(s) is like getting to know your girlfriend's ex.
