I have a Durex fuel filter with a gl*** bowl on my '50 Chevy Styleline (pretty much all original)...it recently started trickling fuel out of it. I figured the gasket must have gone bad. After removing the gl*** bowl I found the gasket to be a cork gasket. However, its not just a round "o-ring" style gasket...it has an inner gasket as well with slots cut out of it, inbetween the outter and inner gasket... I'm trying to describe this thing the best I can... Sorry for the confusion. Also, when I pulled the gasket it completely disintegrated... Anyway, does anybody know where I can find one of these gaskets? Or will I just have to buy a whole new fuel filter? Thanks in advance!
Gaskets for older filters and pumps are becoming difficult to find. NOS parts, if located, are often dried out and useless, too. You may have to make your own out of bulk material, available at some parts outlets. I made the fuel pump and trans. cover gaskets for my Olds/ LaSalle combo. from sheet stock a few years back.....
Ended up finding a regular "o-ring" style rubber gasket from NAPA. Got it to seat inside the fuel filter ***embly just right and tightened the bowl to it and it worked out just fine. Appreciate your input!
